Tube Notcher
(Preview)
I wanted a tube notcher for a while. Cheap ones aren't good, good ones aren't cheap. Went through my odds and ends pile and found a pieces of 1.375" shaft and 3" X .250" wall tube. $10 for bearing that would make the 2 work together. A "V" block from a machine shop exercise and some other scraps. A little lat...

Daughter and I are wrenching on the old Benz again..

An update in Creativity
(Preview)
I spent ages learning how to do compound curves and get it right but I'm pleased with the result and I enjoyed the project from start to end. The track-T rad shell is all steel & took about 2 1/2 years. I am sure anyone else could do it over a weekend. Still have to pin stripe it a bit. So nice to hear that ad...

My middle son was up for the weekend. He is the one you have seen welding on my truck. He is into autocross with his daily driver. Started a couple of years ago. Last year put a performance chip in as well as a rear sway bar. It may have been a bigger one, not sure. Going hard into the corners he can life t...

Nothing too exciting for most here
(Preview)
But I spent the day with a wet stone in hand grinding my rocker arms smooth. Never done this before and kind of tedious but fun to do nevertheless. If my engine needs smooth rocker arms, that's what it gets. The real bonus is, now I know how ! Only 3 left to do. Learning is such a big part of this whole expe...

Even a novice can do it

It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. (My first time in an engine) Changing the intake manifold and carb on a 1966 Ford 289 to an Edelbrock w/ 3 Stromberg 97s. Not done yet - just a dry fit. But for any other novices out there, if I can do it, so can you. Wuga mounted the Strombergs and I suspect it tak...

skipping ahead a bit

Tried cutting out two oversize panels just to see how things might measure up. Looks like I have another compound curve to deal with. Hmm ? Otherwise, things look OK (to me). Probably way off again. Anyway, I'm still hard at it. The last pic is for the center front piece. I'll cut that last after I...

Boy you sure do know your metal. I bent the metal over my thigh just a bit and it was just enough. All the pieces are sloppy because I cut them large and strapped them to hold them but it looks to me like they will form close. Kind of worried about the final cuts in case I cut too much but I'll cross that bridg...

Hammer forming

What better way to spend the last day of the year than working on the rod. For the really tight compound curve on my Track-T nose, I decided to make a male composite to hammer form the sheet metal on. I don't know if it is the proper next step but I figure it should work well for such a tight compound curve (f...

For anybody else with a cold garage, this weather has been great.
