Finally got one to post! This is the engine that will be in my Suburban. Ben has got it all cleaned and painted. I have finally finished modifications to the floor to mount the rear seats from a newer sub. Motor is a 5.3

Dads truck was a 78 so the motor was blue.  That's something I wanted to keep the same.

It's amazing how nice a motor and trans can look with a clean up and a paint job.

They are the way to "GO". I am going to have to get on this wagon too and build one.

we went in on an HP tuner so we can do all the re-programming ourselves. Ben has been messing around with it a bit already with his truck and can't wait for spring to tune his Camaro. The engine was in a 1999 chev truck but is a 2005 with 160K on it. After parting out the truck, I have zero dollars into the 5.3 and rebuilt trans. Should be around 300HP before headers exhaust and electric fans are added. You know...give or take a bit.  Should also say that Ben made the adjustable motor mounts as well (can be seen already on motor painted blue).  He really is the "brains" behind this swap.  He says "you need this and that" and I buy it.  LOL

I also need HP Tuners or EFI Live. Need to bypass security before I can start it up.

If Ben recommends the HP, I will buy it also. I trust young guys with the new tech.

Where did you get it if you don't mind?

Hp tuners is what we bought.
It is what most people use, and can certainly do what you need it to do. The stock ecus on these motors are phenominally tunable from factory, even offering complete system makeovers to run speed density for Turbo cars etc.

Regardless, they have a pro version and the normal version. Their website can tell you the differences, but for what youre probably looking to do with it, the normal one will be fine.

The new version that they sell is a bluetooth capable fob that plugs into the OBDII port, so you can run gauges through a 5 dollar app (TORQUE APP) that I highly reccomend, as I have been using the app for the past year to run my speedometer through GPS. When doing your ECU flashing however, you use the cable for uninterupted data transfer. They sent a usb drive with the kit too, not sure why.

FYI, the truck motor ECU costs 2 credits (around 100$) to unlock, where the car (not sure on ls1, but LS3 or LS2 etc) cost more if Im not mistaken.

Im rambling now, but I would go with HP, just for the wide range of youtube videos to help you get started, as well as an online database of downloadable tunes and a forum to dig through.

 Thanks Ben.

I will go with the HP.

I guess I will need a wide band O2 as well? Time to start researching. This part drives me nuts. I prefer to just go, go ...go.

Oh well, gotta do it, and soon. Spring is getting close.

You dont need a wideband if youre running a N/A engine. It helps to really dial it in I suppose but my Camaro and Truck dont have it and neither will dads burban.

Wideband is how you would get every drop of stock horsepower, but all you do is remove the rear o2 sensors (they only apply for your emissions and you don't need them), and use the front two for the data needed for metering the fuel/air.

The basic thing to so for horsepower gains is fuel enrichment changes and messing with the torque management and shift points.

Without going too crazy again, youll basically do the following
-Delete the anti theft
-Remove any engine codes you dont want turning on(evap, rear o2s etc)
-Change the wheel tire size for your application

That should get it running.
I should mention as well, you can add pins to your computer plugs for electric fan triggers aswell, and then set the temp the computer will trigger them at with HP. Im going ranting again.

If you had any more questions feel free to send me a Pm and give me a call if you had some things you wanted advice on. Im new to the tuning as well, But the swap stuff im pretty familliar with.

Pugsy did you make that high mount AC compressor or buy it. I have been pricing them from Dirty Dingo. Glad your engine is working out.

Those are the mock ups. They're only an 1/8 thick.

I have a set on order 3/16" thick and also an extra set if you need em.

I ordered double of everything I'm using on this build including motor mount brackets, gas tank flanges to fit a stock Avalanche pump.

Not sure how they're gonna work out. Need to cut into my fuel tank and weld on it. Should be fun.

CAD file available to anyone that wants it.

Can you post up a pick of the front of the motor showing the belt drive system?  What is it off of?  Where did you get the AC brackets from?  how much? and which AC pump are you using?  Wiring?  These are all the questions Ben has been asking me to figure out for my set up.  Not sure if I will change from the dirty dingo stuff but price is a factor as always.  lol

THX in advance.

Rich

They're being laser cut now, and I can get them to you for cost.
Cheaper than DD for sure.
I also have some thick walled tubing for the spacers.
The tensioner is an OEM one also, so that's perfect

I need to get my hands on them and make sure they're OK first and proven. Still a concept until
I get them installed without throwing the belt or squealing.. Hopefully, they come in this week.
