I think I have it right this time.  At least I hope I do.  Can't post often - computer is dying on me.IMG_6068.JPGTucci 1931-ford-chopped-channeled-sedan-front-e1488077997660.jpg

Nope. It needs to be pretty much perfect.

I followed a pattern off an imperfect buck before.
Here's what happened. The lines in the first pic show the shape that the buck was and how the pattern I followed helped me make the metal the exact same as the buck. So, fixing was called for. Had to cut the whole top off and make new metal in the correct shape.

Bring the buck to the meet, we'll smooth up the metal strips so we can pull a proper pattern.

No. See the foil tape? That's the shape your metal will be if you take a flexible shape pattern from it.
My point above was that my buck was the wrong shape and look what happened to me.
When using the pattern, your piece will be identical to it. If your pattern is identical to your buck as it is now, that's the shape the metal will be.

Take your time (there are no short cuts to this) doing the buck perfect. if you must, slather bondo over the foil tape to smooth it to the correct shape.

I will bring you some 1/2" strips. Need to do it all over. How about wait for the meet? It won't take long to correct the buck.
We can tack weld the strips together to hold shape better.
