Anyone using, or has anyone used the LED 1157 type tail light bulbs P# 52624, manufactured by Kaper II Inc. ?? I noticed the existing bulbs in the '64's tail lights are really dim, and checking the brake lights against the garage door,... they weren't a whole lot brighter either. Picked these bulbs up today at my parts supplier and at $47.35 ( tax in ) for a set of two,.. I was hoping to get some input on these before I cut the packaging open. I had issues with weak tail lights on the '39 Buick coupe , and bought a set of ordinary ( non LED ) Bulbs for that vehicle, that were supposed to be super bright,... ended up with the same candle light glow as the ones that I removed.
good question wayne and i would be interested in hearing also. on the 50 p/u i replaced the whole light assembly over to led but that wouldn't be feasible with one of the cars. -how about you try it first, you have the bulbs already, and let me/us know with before and aft pics of the difference, would ya pls. lol
-joking aside, good ?

Your 64 has a large reflector housing behind the lens, this has a large effect on how bright the light will appear. These were originally silver cad plated, make sure the finish is still bright and not rusty. If bad a coat of bright white paint will work wonders. LED's are very directional, when you look at one straight on they will blind you, from an angle not so. The LED's on the side of these bulbs will depend on reflecting off the reflector to fill the lens with light, in most cases a regular bulb does a better job. When you are sure the reflectors are good you can also try a 2157 bulb, a bit brighter bulb that was used in later models. I use LED bulbs in the 39, not the style you have but with a 24 LED'S on the top, so they shine straight through the lens and don't reflect off a reflector because the tailight housing is so small. A high brake light in the rear window is your best safety improvement, most of the aftermarket ones are LED.
not sure about the special flasher, Wayne, cuz if you use a heavy duty flasher, it will work on 1 light, or 10 lights.
John, how are you doing ?? Thanks for the input bud, will have to check and see what is in this vehicle for a flasher. Going to pull the tail light pots tomorrow and see what condition they are in ( internally ) ,... the backs, ( inside the trunk ), look like brand new,.. but that doesn't tell me much about the inside condition of them. Will probably end up painting, or making up a reflector inside them,... seems to me I recall painting the insides of the taillight housings on the '39 Buick,.. and pretty sure it was " oldkoot " who suggested the "painting " remedy to me back then too.,.. and it worked excellent. Had the old relic out for another short cruise yesterday, beautiful day for it, and it's working great. I think I met Dave Meharg from Copenhagen over in Burwell driving that absolute little gem of a early '60's Dodge / Plymouth that he owns, ( pale yellow ) and absolutely immaculate, never expected to see that car out in December, lol.

The problem with LED's is they draw next to no power. When they first came on the market You would need to add a resistor in the line to make them even Light. Most of the newer bulbs will have the resistance built in.The original flashers were a bi metallic thingy that made and broke As the filament heated up . The electronic one doesn't need the amp draw to fire .
Let me know how you make out with the reflectors, Wayne. Seems to me that my 61 and your 64 are very similar with the back-up light in the middle of the tail lite.
