Not sure if the correct forum but am wondering about what coating to put on them. I have a pair of new split manifolds for the 292 in my truck and have been thinking of ceramic coating (quoted anywhere from $200 - $250) to do the pair or anybody have luck with the VHT product? Never used it before .  Any thoughts?

Have had decent success with the VHT paint on manifolds etc. You should blast them first, and not handle them with bare hands to keep the oils off. Have spray painted them, and put the in the oven to bake it on. WARNING if you use the kitchen stove, make sure your wife is gone for the day.

Ha Ha Ha,...Sounds like you have had some exerience using the wifes kitchen oven there John.  I have done up a couple diffeent sets of headers using VHT paint,..it worke well,...then I fired up the BBQ, and laid the headers on a couple big discarded cookie sheets to keep the headers off the grill itself. I have done other car parts the same way, using VHT high heat paint. What John said,..don't handle any of the parts ( before painting ) with your bare hands once they are prepped for paint.

Hi Don, check out FlashFire Coatings in Courtice. flashfirecoatings.com/price.html
They do all of my powder and ceramic coating now! Your quote of $200 - $250 seems about right, like everything the quality of the output is based entirely on the prep. If nothing else use this as a future reference. Cheers

I just sandblasted my headers and sprayed with VHT. I love the colour, I used cast iron. They won't fit in my oven and my gf works from home to that wouldn't be an option even if they did fit. Just gonna have to heat em up when the time comes to fire up the truck again. Hopefully it holds up ok. I just couldn't justify spending $300 on coating an old bashed in set of headers.

Sounds like you guys have had success with the VHT. Presuming it can be purchased in a number of places. Does it need a primer coat or anything? Or just blast them and then spray them. These manifolds are short enough to fit in BBQ so will have to read instructions about cooking them... Thanks

No primer necessary.

I VHT'd a set of shorty for my SBC and then into the BBQ for heat treatment. If I recall, I kept the heat to around 250 for about 20 mins, then let cool.

Ya I have been there too, the lady of the house had enough when she found the rear fenders for my '34 Ford under the bed. (Just a nice dry place to store them). She did not see the humour in that!

Hey there Beans, I built a powder coat oven with some buddies a couple years back, big enough to do bike frames.  He works out of his garage at home.  Does really good work, he did my english wheel for me and it turned out perfect.  Shoot me a PM if your interested.  In the Kitchener area
