Just curious... what would be an ideal set of economical aftermarket assembled heads I could just bolt on and go with on my 350? I have stock 993 heads now, pretty sure cam is not stock but no idea what it is, nothing to wild just doesn't sound stock To me.
Beans unless you're going Aluminum "Camel Humps" 461's, 291,s,186/187's would be your best bet. 2.02 intakes and 1.64 exhaust let them breathe fairly well
I would tend to agree with Pugsy, too many unknowns Beans. You are going to spend $300 - $500 on camel hump cores then spend another $500+++ in machining and parts. Pick up a 4 bolt and start planning a fresh build...
LOL, now that's NOT nice Joe! Each to their own I say...
I have been able to make good power from my son's 5.0 roller motor for his Mustang but it has cost him almost 1.75x the cost (of a SBC) to still fall short in numbers compared to my build. Each manufacturer/brand has its pros & cons...its all in what you can afford to build.
So I guess getting Joe to admit the SBC has won more short track races than any other motor in the world won't happen. I know you said 350, but even today guys use a 350 block as a starting point for some awesome combinations.
lol I understand what your saying Joe. Just to be be a smart ass... if we didn't fix wha ain't broke would hotrodding exist?
X2 beans. your younger, have fun. what have you come up with for a decision on this front? if you are still thinking humps maybe, i will sell you a tested bare pair quite reasonable to give it a shot. if you don't like it then take them off and sell them. you won't lose any money on them for what you will have in them i am quite sure. and while you have the intake off i have 3 or 4 different versions from old school cast 4bbl to 2x4 to high rise tunnel for sbc. try one out and if it works and you like it we will talk cost, again quite reasonable.
i like your thinking, if we didn't fix wha ain't broke would hotrodding exist? it's the same as most of us older guys were doing way back when. lol its refreshing to see a young-in with that logic. back in the day you had to have humps, that is till the 202 slant plugs came on the scene. your not shooting for big power so the 2 bolt should be ok and obviously you don't mind playing with it.
good for you beans. pm sent

And I am betting you cant go into a Chevrolet dealer and buy a single part for the motor
block included not really a 350 chev

No decisions made.. I was just asking questions looking to chat and get some opinions. I appreciate everyone's opinions. I have a few projects on the go that are higher priority right now so not rushing into anything right now.

Vortech heads - they are really good and can be had cheap. You will need a new intake and guided rockers.
And you can still buy nearly everything from the dealer for a SBC. You can still buy brand new complete 350's from them. You need to have someone who really knows the system to find anything though....

Wrong again. Hell, I can buy a complete crate 350/350 motor at Chevy dealer. In fact if your racing in a crate series it's the only place you can get a new sealed crate from.
