Changed out the water pump this past weekend as the old one was leaking. The block is a '69 302 but the front wear's an early 289 timing cover. Any Ford guy knows where this is leading. Picked up a high volume pump and went at it. The new pump put the pulley exactly 1/2 of the sheave width ahead of the original location. Made some spacers for the crank pulley, shifted a couple other brackets and viola - done. Only problem I encountered were the two bolt holes inboard of the passageways to the block. There are no provisions for these bolts in the early timing covers so......here's hoping. I have a couple later timing covers but that would entail pulling the entire front off and I wasn't in the mood. I'll change it next time I do the timing chain. Most important thing is - it doesn't leak and the high volume pump lowered overall temps 30' . Since the Comet has run hotter than I'd like,  since the day I got it mebbe I'll try a high volume on it too. I also need to build a shroud for the Comet, putting one on the Falcon made a huge difference.

Ran into the pulley being off when I went to a short waterpump on my Chevy BB. I cut up the pulley and welded it to suite.

I think that the shroud is what made the big difference in the water temp, more than the different pump.

Mebbe....but I had the shroud on it with the old pump too John. I mean, yeah, when I first put the shroud on it dropped considerably....I stole the shroud from a '66 Valiant I had at one time. Trimmed it up a little and it works great.

High flow pump will make a big difference as long as the rad is large enough to cool the volume passing through........sounds like you are almost ready for summer ............

That crossed my mind as well Henry, if I could have sectioned the pulley on a lathe, cut a ring and welded it up I would have.....but I don't have a metal lathe.....yet.
