OK, so I think I goy my cooling stuff figured out.  Thanks for the calls from a couple of guys on this site.

Noticed my oil is dark so I think I should change it.  what do I need to look out for?  Higher compression small block Chevy for those that need that info.  About 400 hp.  the existing oil filter is a Mobil 1 unit, probably from the guy that built the motor.

You can go with regular oil, or synthetic, and use a quality filter. Don't even think about a Fram. Mobile oil is a good product. If you have a flat tappet cam you want to add zinc, or use oil that has zinc in it.

If it's a flat tappet Driven GP-1, 15/40 and a Napa gold filter

Brad Penn Oil from W.O.Stinson and a NAPA Gold filter and yes if that is still the build oil, change it now.
