Tired of the constant aggravation of poor performance and terrible transmission issues with her stock turbo diesel

4 speed automatic Mercedes, she loves the car, drives it a ton in the summer so I started measuring up a nice low

mileage 1966 Mustang 200-6 C4 combo I had in the back shed awaiting a new home ,started pulling the original

anchor out (650 pounds of motor and an additional 150 pounds of transmission) of the hole, and as soon as my super

wet yard is hard enough ( Saturday night/Sunday morning hopefully) to drive across, the new heart will be in the shop

to start building mounts , adapting power steering and alternator brackets etc, then on to whatever needs to be

engineered for front half of driveshaft to get the wild upgrade in horsepower to the rear end, lol.. hopefully I'll

also remember to take a few photos along the way to share...

This was it before stuffing in the shop, lowered 6" and drives like a Cadillac slot car...

Motor and transmission are in place, mounts all made, oil pan was reshaped, drain plug relocated  along with oil pump pickup tube, was waiting for a few components to show up to get the power steering adapted using the Mercedes pump on the Ford motor so had to wait for a secondary harmonic balancer add on pulley.   Also had to source a 27 spline differential yoke to adapt to a standard Spicer ujoint from the Benz rubber rag joint. Luckily by the

power of the internet and help from a good friend at National Moparts was able to find that a yoke from a 7.25" or 8.25" Mopar rear would bolt right in since Spicer had made
the differential assemblies for Mercedes apparently. That and a mix of a couple in stock ujoints and I am on my way to a
1 piece driveshaft from an early Ford Ranger , I now just need to shorten the shaft about 4" to complete that task next.

Oh, Mustang radiator and hoses in uncut original form worked out perfectly as well.
Work has been minimal in my shop , our mother has been in and out of hospital since April, back in again so lots of travel and
visiting has been necessary. Also juggling day to day work from my shop restoring vintage motorcycles , currently in to a pair
of Norton 850 Commandos for two friends..

Now there's something you don't see every day.

Nice work Chris.
