I installed my steering shafts onto my corvette rack and pinion. Thought I had it all lined up. Everything worked was very happy until I turned the steering wheel lock to lock. One way I get 1 1/4 rotations and the other way I get 1 1/8 rotations. If I adjust the rods that go to the spindles to match the rotation both ways I have a steering wheel that is not straight. I have not put the truck on the ground and moved it around so not sure if it needs to be better aligned or not. Do you know if there is a way to adjust the rack and pinion so the steering wheel moves the same in both directions.
Marten: you will have to make that adjustment from the tie-rod ends.. get as close as you can then once the vehicle is up and running and driving it will need to go on a rack to be dialed in.. you can do a rough alignment with some string or a measuring tape to get it close.. you will need to disconnect the tie rod ends. do a lock to lock and then centre the steering wheel and measure the the centre treads at the front and rear of the the front tires.. set it maybe an 1/8th or 1/16th in at the front and that will get it close enough to get to the alignment shop.. the road height and weight will determine the final settings.. Tires are expensive so you do not want to have a toe, or camber issue..

Thanks Chuk
So I had to take a step back and look at this again. Did some checking with what I had installed. Followed up with what Chuk said here and found center of the rack and pinion. Then took my steering wheel off the column.
So I followed the instructions from Ididit and set up the column the way they said. Turns out the steering wheel and the column don't line up the same. Took out the adapter moved it to suit the steering wheel, in spite of what was stamped as "top' on the adapter. Reinstalled everything and all is good now. So the word "top" is now at about 9:30 on the column, ya it was off that much. Feeling much better about this. Everything works perfect now.
This may sound confusing without seeing it but thanks to Chuk, Lightspeed Mike and a few beers this has now come to an end.
This truck will turn me into a mechanic or body guy or welder yet.
