If you look at the headlights from the back side now that they have been modified they are now sticking out past the back side of the grill. I knew they would as that is how the '56 trucks are.
The problem come in when I mount the grill as it bolts to the air dam. On the '56 they created a bump in for this. I was wondering if there is a way of shaping the air dam for this situation. Don't really want to buy new dams if I can shape something. It should be fairly waterproof as the bump is in the fenderwell area so exposed to whatever the tire will kick up. The finger is the center of the headlight location and that needs to be pushed in about 1 1/2" and about 5" in diameter. It doesn't need to be very nice looking as the only way you will see it is when you take the wheel off and stick your head in the fenderwell. Tools, I have some, don't really want to buy something fancy just for this one job if don't have to.
You would need some wood shaped the same at the outside with the cut out. Use a plastic mallet to stretch the metal into the cut out. Hard to tell with the pics provided though.. Or simply cut a circle of sheet metal, weld a ring around it, cut the hole where it needs to go, shove it in, mark the access of the ring, trim off, and weld the works in.

Pugsy, would 18 ga metal be able to stretch as much as I need, the bubble will be about 5-6" dia and 1 1/2" deep.
Interesting Pugsy. That is exactly what I want as a finish piece. Will have to try something and see how it goes. I do have a plan B but it is a lot more work. if I have success I will post it later. Working on something else right now.
