need ideas for a body dolly

alright folks, looking for ideas on making a body dolly.
Pictures if you have any, would be greatly appreciated.

I need to lift the body off the chassis but be able to roll the chassis out from under it.

Body does not have the front clip on it. but engine is sitting on the chassis.

I am a bit lost as to what to use.

1-1/2" square tube or 2" square tube, wall thickness is where I have read a few different thicknesses on.

from 1/8" to 3/16"

I really don't need to over engineer this thing.

My idea would have the four posts being able to raise or lower for height adjustment.

A couple of long 2x4 horses and 2 only 4 x 4's is all you need.

2" square, 16 ga is plenty if you really want to use steel. North York Iron has the best price usually.

Since you must pull the engine anyways, take that out first and you won't need to raise it much at all.

I'm not to sure what it is you want to do, just make it moveable or actually lift the body. If you want to just move the body keep your eye open for a old trailer. The type with small wheels.  They usually go cheap. In the last two years there has been two of them in my neighbourhood for $50 each
Good luck

Pugsy,
I'm thinking metal because it will take up less space on either side of the car. I don't have a lot of room in the garage to build it out of wood.

I will check pricing at North York, I usually just go to Mr. Metal as they are 5 minutes from me.

TMJ,
Just lift the body to move out the chassis to replace. Body will be staying in the garage.

2 x 2 x 16 ga for the frames and 2x3 x .100 wall stood up the 3" way across to hold the body.

MR. Metal and Metal Supermarket are usually double the price, however, you can buy the lengths you need. North York is full lengths only.

I found an old cart from a factory and modified it....Lots of industries use various carts, check Kijiji under carts......you may even find a scissor pallet cart and make a frame for it so you can raise and lower it

You're more than welcome to come over and see the unit I built to move my Model A Ford body around. It will give you an idea of design and the material used to make it.

Frank, I have a dolly from a Greenhouse. It's got an angle steel frame with 4 - 4" or 5" dolly wheels that roll great on concrete. It's about 6" off the floor, about 24" wide and 70 odd inches long.
I can get the exact measurements if you're interested. I'd load a pic but have to borrow my wife's phone for that(I have no patch cable for my cheap-azz phone, lol) and she's not here at the moment.

You're welcome to borrow it, modify it if need be and when you're done I'll need it back to use it for the same purpose for our GT6.

Thanks Bruce & Randy,

I have made some room in my garage and will get a couple of 4x4's and figure out a way to mount them to my 6 Ton jack stands.
Wont be mobile but I only need it to remove the chassis, then strip it down and transfer the parts onto my newly painted chassis.

I bet two sections of scaffolding on caster wheels with two crossers would do everything you need Frank,
you can then roll the chassis in and out under it right in the shop!
