going for some surgery

OK so maybe my title is not the best but this is the patient.  Poor guy has some cancer.  Had my son down a couple of weeks ago and we looked at it together to see what could be done.  Given that he can weld, everything is a piece of steel to him.  All we have to do is cut it here and here and here, then...................................

And then the Aug long weekend showed up.  Work begins.

A couple of the spots of cancer.  This poor trailer has not been road worthy for a while so we have been very discrete when we use it but it has gotten to the point we had to do something.

Surgery day, sun was shining.  That is the doctor there, aka our middle child, well he is 25 so not much of a child I guess.

A mark on the trailer to indicate the extent of the surgery.

One side removed.  We had to put in a new post as well between the double wheels as that was done as well.

New steel on one side, and the other sides cut out.  OK so what is it with young people and there phones.

Phone down and back to welding.

All sides now replaced.  Some misc. welding to do and then painting.

Floor boards anyone.

A long weekends worth of bonding time and we got it almost done.  Three days in the sun.  Man was that hot.  Special thanks to our son for helping out.

Good job. Nice when the son can weld as I find it harder with the glasses on now.

Me to.  I ended up buying two sets of prescription safety glasses but set up for reading only.  One for work and one stays in the shop.  Works great under my welding helmet.

I have continued to work on this monster every spare minute I can.  It has become a thorn in my side as such.  Once the sides were done I was looking at the box where the pump and battery are stored.  Saw a small hole and thought I should check it out to see if I have a problem.  Removed the pump and battery and found this.

Removed the box, ordered a plastic one.  Mounted it.  Decided it was to flimsy to hold the pump and battery, esp. in the winter when things get cold.  Worried about it cracking.  Cut a piece of steel for it to sit on, mounted the box, pump and battery

Finished painting everything, added some reflective tape, new side boards, tested everything.  Fender lights don't work, probably bad grounding so they will get replaced.  But done for the most part.

Moved it back to its home my other driveway and was left with a mess.

On to the next project.  Does this project stuff ever end?

I sure hope not. What the heck would we do then?

Looks great Marten.

 Thanks Pugsy

There is a difference between "work" projects and "fun" projects.  The list never seems to get bigger or smaller.  For me this was a work project so not much fun.  I enjoy being busy but would like my home life stuff to be more fun oriented.  My wife keeps finding things that need to be done around the house as well.  That again is more work then fun, but now I am starting to grumble so I will stop there.

Looking at the time involved, between my son and I there was over 90 hours into this thing.  Hopefully it lasts a few more years now.
