HI WARREN : It's been a long time since we crossed paths . I had my block / head done by a small , one-man shop in Smiths falls -- Tim McCoubrey - " C H E " , Cylinder Head Engineering 613-284-2677 .
He did a lot of creative stuff to mine , and left out some of the things I asked for -- But explained how those mods had minimal value . It is done to produce more bottom end power , ( for fifth gear ) , but not at the expense of driveability . Your requirements are probably different , but I'm totally pleased with mine ( 14000 miles later ) and you know first hand how it runs .
If I can connect you two , just give me a call 613-272-2153 -- LATER -- DON / FLEET51
good question warren. i would get in touch with doug forbes at c.smith machine shop up this way in wooler and have a chat with him about where you are trying to go with it. if my memory is still intact he was the guy around this area who made some of them 6cyl g-m engines go fast in stock cars back when brighton speedway was just getting started. a buddy of mine was one of the top dog's back in the day with one of them motors and i am pretty sure forbes was the machinist behind it. it's a full shop with a flow bench. - -http://www.durrencelayneracing.com/weekly/drivers/authorized-rebuilders/

I talked to a couple of builders but they have only worked on 250s. When I talked to Doug Forbes, he knew exactly what I was talking about and what I needed. The other benefit is he is only 40 minutes away so if there are questions, I can drop by. Even Kingston is a bit of a hike and Smiths Falls and Jasper are even further. I had my th350 done in Smith Falls and getting back and forth, especially in the winter, turned out to be a bit of a chore. I am waiting for my larger valves to arrive and then I will go up to see Doug. I appreciate the inputs and I think they have led me down the right path. Hopefully, close to home works.
good to know warren, i guess i haven't completely lost all my marbles, yet. lol that has to be 25 to 30 years ago now and they were also playing with off set timing keys in the crank to alter the timing which was somewhat exotic at the time. between doug and the owner/driver there was a lot of smarts involved.
