1955.....what a wake up call. I can remember all of this.
This has been around for a long tie but good to get a refresh.
Enjoy and have a great day.

1955

- Merely, 62  Years Ago…These comments made in the year  1955!

I'll tell you  one thing, if things  keep going  the way they are, it’s going to be  impossible  to  buy a week’s  groceries for  $10.00.
?id=169658&part=2&auth=co

Have you  seen the new  cars coming out  next year?
It  won't be long  before $1,000.00  will only buy a  used one.
?id=169658&part=3&auth=co

If  cigarettes keep going up  in price, I'm  going to quit; 20  cents a pack is ridiculous.
?id=169658&part=4&auth=co

Did you hear  the post office  is  thinking  about charging 7  cents just to mail  a letter.
?id=169658&part=5&auth=co

If they  raise the minimum  wage to $1.00,  nobody will be able  to hire outside  help at the  store.
?id=169658&part=6&auth=co

When I first  started driving, who  would have  thought gas  would someday  cost  more than 20 cents a  gallon.
Guess we'd be  better off leaving the car in  the garage.
?id=169658&part=7&auth=co

I'm afraid  to send my kids to  the movies any  more. Ever since  they let Clark  Gable get by with  saying DAMN  in  GONE WITH THE  WIND,  it seems  every new movie  has either HELL  or DAMN in it..
?id=169658&part=8&auth=co

I read the  other day where  some  scientist  thinks it's possible to  put a man on the  moon by the end  of the  century.
They even have  some  fellows they  call  astronauts preparing  for it down in  Texas.
?id=169658&part=9&auth=co

Did you see  where some  baseball  player just  signed a contract  for $50,000 a  year just to play  ball?
It  wouldn't   surprise me if  someday  they'll be  making more than  the President..
?id=169658&part=10&auth=co

I never  thought I'd see the  day  all our  kitchen appliances would be electric.
They're even  making electric  typewriters now.
?id=169658&part=11&auth=co

It's too bad  things are so  tough   nowadays.   I see where a  few  married  women   are having  to  work to make  ends meet.
?id=169658&part=12&auth=co

It won't be  long before young couples are going to have to hire someone  to watch their kids  so  they can  both work.
?id=169658&part=13&auth=co

I'm afraid  the Volkswagen  car
is going to  open the door to  a whole lot of  foreign business.
?id=169658&part=14&auth=co

Thank  goodness I won't live  to  see the day  when the  Government takes half  our income in taxes.
I sometimes  wonder if we  are electing the  best people  to government.
?id=169658&part=15&auth=co

The fast  food restaurant  is convenient  for a quick  meal, but I  seriously doubt  theywill ever  catch on.
?id=169658&part=16&auth=co

There is no  sense going on  short  trips  anymore for a weekend.  It costs nearly  $2.00 a night to  stay in a  motel!
?id=169658&part=17&auth=co

No one can  afford to be  sick  anymore. At  $15.00 a day in the hospital, it's too rich  for my  blood.
?id=169658&part=18&auth=co

Know  any friends  who would  get a kick out of  these, pass this  on!
Be sure and send it to your  kids.

Hard to believe eh!!! .. I can remember gas at 7 cents a "GALLON".. and I can remember not being able to get $5.00 worth in the tank. i used to work at a car wash on Carling ave in Ottawa where we advertised a free wash with $4.99 in gas ,, Not many free washes.. even trying to fill the filler neck before the days of Charcoal canisters.. .. Wish I could find some of those $2.00 motel rooms to-day  biggrin biggrin  Thanks for the memories.. now I'm depressed..cry

I don't remember gas that cheap but then I'm just a pup.
I do remember in about mid '60's a guy that worked at Gary Carr's Shell had a '60-'63 Falcon with a straight axle in it. I used to walk down and admire that car!!!
For about 50 years I asked people (from the area) who owned it with no luck. Well just a few years ago I found out who owned it. That was so cool to me. biggrinbiggrin
I do remember when in high school I had a part time job to support my inspired somewhat hot rod  Falcon. It was at the local IGA. I had to help a lady carry $30 worth
of groceries out. It was all we could do to get the groceries in her Beetle.
Thanks for the trip down the lane

Sorry to sort of derail your topic Rick.
Your turn Chuck

Yep. i remember the old Capital Theatre in Niagara Falls . Saturday mornings , news reel, cartoon, short serial film, ( flash Gordon, Dick tracey) etc. and the feature film, usually Roy Rogers or Gene Autry, all for 25 cents included admission and popcorn and small drink. Those were the days.

in the early 70's i drove truck for esso on the big trains delivering to their stations and farm agents in the outbacks north and east of toronto. most of the old stations were owned by esso and the rent was collected on a per gallon basis with each delivery which was collected per delivery. i remember the tax on diesel fuel was more than cost of the fuel that we delivered. i'm thinking not much has probably changed, lol. i remember the odd place we went to you got the money before you pulled the handle, lol.
