I don't really like posting the same thing on two similar web sites but maybe this has to get out there.

Has anyone heard anything about gov't talk or proposed legislation to only allow special interest cars on the roads on the weekend?

A friend read some information that the Government may be introducing a new bill to restrict or stop operation of all older cars from Monday to Friday to reduce carbon emissions by 30%. This could involve 106,000 cars.

If its true I suspect it is just a ploy to discourage historical plates. They collect an extra 10 million if those cars had regular plates

I know out west (sask?) , has now made 1987 the last year that can be regestered and insured as an histoic vehicle.

Misuse of the plates here is a problem , It is not enough for some guys to save thousands with collector car ins. , but have to save another 100 bucks on plates !!!!

I have a all original 27 model T that I use regular.plates on as I dont want head aches of restrictions of historic plates !!!

I hope they do clamp.down on these people mis using historic plates , every time I see them on a hot rod I think to myself what an ******* , to abuse ro privilige of cheap ins. And then be to cheap.and knowingly break the rules / laws applied to historic plates !!!!

Here's the scoop on Historical plates in Sask. There seems to be a 30 year sliding scale and the registration rates are higher then Ontario unless it's 1941 or older. I don't think it is any better then Ontario.

Warren

The following requirements must be met for a vehicle to qualify for registration as an antique:
The vehicle must be model year 1987 or older.
The applicant must have or operate a primary-use vehicle registered:
in the applicant's name, or
in the name of the applicant's spouse, or
jointly registered in the names of both spouses,
in the name of a corporation for the applicant's personal use.
The vehicle must be registered in either Class PV or LV.
The antique vehicle must be for private use only and not for commercial or farm use.
Rates
Reduced rates are available for vehicles registered as antiques. Annual cost to plate a vehicle as antique includes an $85 insurance premium + PST, as well as a $68 registration fee. If the vehicle is a 1941 model or older the annual cost includes an $85 insurance premium + PST, as well as a $5 registration fee.
Vehicles registered with antique use are limited to a maximum of $800 for physical damage coverage along with liability coverage of $200,000. If the vehicle is worth more than $800, you may discuss extension coverage options with your insurance broker.
The deductible for a vehicle registered as antique is $500.

I think the days of Historic plates are coming to an end. I agree that a lot of people abuse these plates (including me). I just put regular plates on both my cars.

i went to personal plates from the historic plates also. while out and about every time i seen a cop i would think about what B/S i would give him from this location if i was ever stopped and didn't need the hassle if i was stopped and it came up. somehow as i got older driving around and had to think about a cop for something stupid like a plate wasn't fun anymore. if or when they decide to clean it up they will probably just raise the fine huge and start pulling the guy's they see driving around town every night with them on. it won't take long if the fine is high enough.

as for the original question from warren, i haven't heard that warren but nothing will surprise me with the lame-brains we have now running both shows. the way they are pushing electric cars and eventually driver-less i have pondered about this and it won't surprise me in the least. i can see it starting with the special interest cars because of the lesser numbers but it will/has to include all motorized self driven vehicles eventually. as this electric stuff grows and it will with their help, tax breaks etc, and their end game being driver-less they won't allow self driven on the same roads. they are wrapping it up under emissions to help their cause also.  not that i will be around for it but these guy's think years out and plan that way. i am thinking enjoy it while i can.

-it would be interesting to see where your buddy got that info warren, it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

-p.s. i just happen to have 3 historical plates for sale if someone is in need. lol  numbered, 1H111-1H112-1H113. when i bought the first one and seen the number sequence i bought the other 2 at the same time. i am thinking maybe a case of beer each.
