I got these seeds from my late father in law years ago and have had them all around the house. They are different in that they OPEN after 8pm. That's right. You can watch these literally open in front of your eyes. Then as an added bonus, a HUMMING BIRD MOTH will come to pollinate /extract pollen. We have seen them many times, somehow they know where these plants are. AND they are bird sized!!
Latin name- Oenothera Acutissima or Narrow Leaf Evening Primrose/Flaming Gorge Evening Primrose. These are found only above 5000ft elevation in the N E corner of Utah( Uinta Mountains ) and N W corner of Colorado. (Diamond, Cold Spring and Douglas Mountains ) as you can see, I have many. Will be 'pretty' when all open. And I have SEEDS!
Had two bloom last night, maybe two more tonight. I will photograph them opening and post.
Kool: Nature is amazing eh!!! How can there NOT be a God.. Who or how could our world be so perfect for all our needs and probably still millions of things we have yet to discover about the wonders of this world..Thanks for taking the time to post these.. Pretty cool watching the time all that took for that... can we smoke the flower..

In the morning the flower closes and dies. The seed pod forms at the base of the stem @ ground level . Seeds are pin head sized. Each pod holds many seeds.

Any plant that grows watches and beer is really cool.
My 1st attempt with this - 'Organic beer'- usually my brand (the only one that's gluten free) is BARDS. The watch is to show opening time because many people have never seen/ heard of these.

So it only flowers for one night? Have to say very cool. Glad you can make things grow. Me, bet I could kill weeds. Lol
Marten, the blooms last one night but each plant can have over a dozen flowers. As these get a little older they will have multiple blooms each. I will take a video of them when there are many of them to open and post. Glad you folks enjoyed this

Yes,they do.The seed pod forms at the base of the stem, close to the soil if not in.When the outside covering weathers away over winter, new plants will appear from those seeds. I try and collect as many as I can when they are done flowering. I will have more seed in the Fall. P M me then & I can send some.

My Mom has there too, never knew the proper name so she just called them Moon Flowers. I didn't know about the seed pods, thanks for that. Cool photo with the moth too.
Junior, Looks like I will have to start all over next year.
Had a few germinated and foolishly left my container outside, well the heat dried them out to the point of no return.
I think it's too late to start over.
I will have more seed. Or if your in the mood for a road trip I have two transplants from what popped up in the garden in pots for you -2 hr drive here

HI Junior,
I did not use up all the seed, maybe half.
These days, I haven't been driving much. 1 day a week or every 10 days to the office. Other than that working from home.
Thanks for the offer though.
I'll have to put a reminder on the calendar to start a bit earlier next year.

They seem to grow rapidly; I had bloomers from over winter plants a few nights ago and now new this year plants to bloom to night. I will post pictures.

Good storm kept me in last night, went out and there are about a dozen blooms. Pictures to night.
Give them a try; like all growing things they need nurturing when small- transplanting can be done when smaller as the root is very long and straight, similar to a Dandilion-so go deep and take lots of dirt around them when moving. They will droop or wilt, but kept in the shade and moist they will pop back. Good luck Frank, you can do IT!
