welding/fabricating question

Trying to come up with a way of making the joint between my stake pocket and the box look good.  I am looking for a small caulking bead size something here.  Any thoughts?

Also looking for ideas on how to attach these to the box.  One idea would be to weld a metal plate behind it, flush to the box then drill holes in the box and plug weld it together.  Another idea would be a continues weld down the outside, back to the first question, how do I make it look nice?

Thanks

Marten

As for caulking 3M has a body sealer in a tube that is paintable. It goes on like any other caulking and with a wet finger smooths out beautifully.

A fine TIG fusion weld if both materials are cold rolled steel.
Any cracks will let water in. Probably start rusting right at the connection point if not welded.

Is the stake pocket a U channel or a tube?
