Does anyone have a 1962 chevy CAR that they could shoot me a photo of the COWL TAG ?? ( I don't need the stamped numbers / letters showing, just tape over them ) My cowl Tag has dissappeared and I have a Co. ( "A.G. Backeast " ) Stateside that will manufacture one for me but they need a photo to go by. Mine was there when I purchased the car,..and I recall looking at it, and seeing the rivet holes lined up,..but NO rivets, was thinking at the time that there should be rivets installed,...just noticed two nights ago,...the tag is missing, and what looks to be a gob of silicone where I last seen it on the firewall. I am thinkng that they removed it for paint when the car was restored, and the firewall painted,...they siliconed it on to line up the rivet holes,..and forgot about installing rivets. My '62 was built in the Oshawa GM plant. I believe tht Co. Just wants to see a photo to get a general idea of what a plain ( non stamped ) Canadian cowl tag looks like, so they can manufacture one..and fill in the info for my car.

If you buy GM historical documents based on your v I n, George can trace the vin to cowl tag for all correct info; providing the v I n is 'born with the car' and if the engine is # matching the stamped info on the RH 'pad' will appear on the delivery sheet as the 'installed/born with' engine and it's corresponding v I n & body number.
Did this with my '66 SD Canso to get ownership and to I D the 283 Acadian engine in the for sale section on this site..
Try Bob Kufaman, Tillsonburg.

Thanks TMJ,...don't believe I know Ron Box by his given / surname,...what would his Forum handle be,..?? Some people will probably be a little skeptical about showing a pic of their vehicle's Data Plate, so I m probably asking a bit too much of Forum members by submitting this post. I know that it is not illegal, or imperative even to have the data plate on the vehicle,... but all of the rest of the car is pretty much original looking and I would like to have a data plate in it's respective location,...and the 4 holes filled in with rivets.
For sure the Law would get a little excited if the VIN plate was missing off of the front drivers side pillar,..but it is in place and does coincide with the info on the ownership. If this car was stolen at some time,..it certainly didn't get vary far from the Original Owner,..out of 5 different owners, from the time that it left the Oshawa plant,...until it went to Hamilton to the owner that I purchased it from,....it never went farther than a 40 mile radius of Oshawa,...and practically in a complete circle,...and then finally to Hamilton. I believe the Buyers Package paperwork I have states that the Original owner owned it from 1962 to 1984 / '85.
LOL,...OK,..Thanks John. I called Chuck yesterday, ( he wouldn't answer his C-phone,.. I think he probably has " Call Display ",..LMAO ),...actually,..he called me back and I wasn't here to take his call. I will give him a shout tomorrow or later on in the week,..or catch him on here. Thanks again bud,..appreciate the info.
I guess we just keep missing each other..Wayne .. I was talking to John Parklane so I know what your talking about .. I don't have one that shows that plate but I would almost think anybody on here that has one of that vintage could e-mail you a picture rather post a pic of theirs on a public board.. I will try and find one..
Here is one of a 63 and a 62 they look the same .. the year is right after the word style..
WRONG-these are all US built tags, he needs one for an Oshawa build which is much different, www.bruneauperformance.ca/, he can answer your question, might even know a source for a repo.
Thank You Chuck, but the problem is,..I need a photo of a cowl tag that is from / on, a " Canadian General Motors Plant " manufactured vehicle. This A.G. Backeast is from Stateside and that is what they do,..manufacture, and restore old antique and classic car cowl data plates. Our Canadian data plates are different than the US in some ways, ( some area's are shaded in ) and I believe it states on the tag " General Motors of Canada ",..then the location of the 3 plants that existed here,...one had to pick the location of the plant that their vehicle was manufactured at, out of the code numbers / letters on the VIN Plate I believe. I have looked all through the internet for a photo of a Canadian '62 chev cowl tag,...best I could come up with was 1947,...and I have entered the search information into the puter in just about every which way that it could possibly be submitted. Thanks for the info Chuck.
OOPS!!! my bad.. I wasn't thinking U.S. tags.. Canadian ones are harder to find and in fact it seems they were a bit erratic and inconsistent in Canada during production in Canada..
I don't know if these are any good or not Wayne.. as you can see they are 68 .. I don't have anything closer than that.. If your going to Ancaster next Sunday you may want to bring a camera and try to find a early 60s Canadian built Chevy there to grab a photo .. I can't think of anybody I know off-hand that has a Canadian 60s Chevy..
Thank You Chuck,.....those are much different than what I was expecting to see. ( My Bad actually, ),...I was thinking about the cowl tag that was on my old '39 Buick,..LOL,. it had the three different GM plants on it,..one being in Quebec somewhere,./..Oshawa,./ and Windsor,.?? The tags in the photo's above are very much like the US tags, compared to the one on the old '39 Buick.
I got to wondering last night just exactly where it was that I had seen a Canadian built cowl data plate just recently,. and then it finally came to me,.. I seen it every time that I opened the hood on the Buick,...Duh !!
I'm not sure if this will help or not. It's out of the 1958 to 1967 GM parts manual and is information for the parts person to identify the model of the vehicle.
Edit: Oshawa starting using OS in 1967. In previous years there was no plant designation on the cowl tag. Info from this site - http://impalas.org/numbers/#canadian

Thank You Bruce, I appreciate the info !! A member on the Forum here,.. ( 33 Guy ) also gave me info on where to get a Data Plate made right here in Canada,..and according to the guy's website,..all that he requires is the info off of the vehicles VIN plate, as he already knows what the dimensions etc. are for the basic Canadian GM data plate. The guys Stateside that I was dealing with were concerned that the Canadian plate may require some shaded areas that are common on some vehicle data plates,..such as they are on most aircraft data plates.
