Most of you have heard of the Dream Cruise ........I used to go over in the early years of it but haven't been in the last 10 years . Several reasons .....more and more non classics clutter the cruise route which runs from about 7 Mile Road up to about 15 Mile Road , along the 8 lanes of Woodward Ave which has a boulevard running down the middle , so about 4 lanes on each side . I used to park at a buddy's place around 11 Mile Road and walk over to Woodward with a lawn chair . Part of the fun was getting up and walking around to various rod displays in nearby parking lots . One such attraction was the legendary Vinsetta Garage where really cool hot rods would park .....32 Ford's with Ardun head flatties etc . Old school stuff galore . But my bum leg keeps me from walking far these days . Not to mention the thousands of family grocery getters , mini vans , new Mustangs , new Camaros , new Vettes etc ...... I'm not interested .
I will start posting pics over the next couple of days ...THEY ARE NOT MY PICS !! I will give credit for everything I post from here on . Most will be from the two Detroit newspapers , the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press .
Stay tuned .

First pic is from the Detroit Free Press as cars pour into Detroit before the big Saturday Dream Cruise
Next bunch is from the Detroit News
Apparently this year , and maybe ONLY this year , they are going to stage some drag racing along a particular section of Woodward Ave ....have to see how that turns out .
They do televise the Cruise for a few hours on Saturday but it has turned into a large Chevrolet commercial for the most part . They also add a so-called " talent contest " where local wannabee's with virtually no talent ( but sing loud ) will warble away ad nauseum . Detroit news t.v personalities show up in various 50's and 60's articles of clothing and look really ridiculous , but hey , thats show biz .

More from the Detroit News .....if I was going again it would be Friday night .....lots of cars and cooler out .That area is pretty safe compared to below 7 Mile Road where you probably should carry a piece .....not kidding .
Thanks for posting the pictures TJ.. I haven't been there for over 10 years..Last time I was there I had overheating problems.. I have watched some of youtube the last few years and don't feel like I have missed much. I am on old school rodder guy and nothing much past 70 has any interest to me with the odd exception..but for the most part I am not interested in muscle cars at all..I love 50s cruisers, wide whites, skirts, dice and dingle balls, and Mexican seat covers..

Seems to be a lot less media coverage this year . T.V. show is only one hour long .....Detroit Free Press has posted very few pics . virtually all Detroit News
Below are all from Detroit News

Oh well , not too much more to report....coverage has really slid this year . The T.V. telecast was a one hour deal on some sub-station Channel 67 , and was very underwhelming . I watched about 20 minutes of it .
Here are a few more pics from the Detroit Free Press :
That's about all I can find in car pics ...lots of crowd and people shots I'm sure you don't want to see .

This just in ....the Cruise is being televised tonight on station WXYZ Detroit which is Channel 7 or cable 8 .
I was looking up the Cruise on the " search " function under " Woodward " and then " Dream Cruise " .....my wife just found it under " 2016 " , duh !! With it running this late , 7 pm , ( maybe because of Olympic coverage ) I have to think it was previously recorded .

I have been watching it on and off since 7:00pm -they rerun it a few times over the next week- it is on again Sunday at 10:00 am -12:00 pm-set your pvr .That way you can fast forward the b.s from reporters who know little about cars.Besides the best TV tonight is at 8:30 pm the Tragically Hip from Kingston on cbc-I got to see them last Tuesday in Hamilton-wow-what a show!!!
Keep on cruising!!!
Dave
If you are a Chevy guy you'll be happy ....Chevrolet is sponsoring the show and it is the 50th anniversary of the Camaro , so it doesn't take much of a guess to determine what will be shown . Anything newer than 1970 ....smog motor era ....is of no interest to me , but that's just me .
