Well , in my opinion , if you want to have a good time , go somewhere you don't need to be and just " hang out " -- Gail and I just returned from a month in a B & B in PORT DOVER . Never spent any amount of time there , but have ancient roots in nearby Woodstock . The objective was to hang out in the little towns and villages I grew up with , but never traveled . The ' 51 was our daily driver for the trip , but quickly became the " New Kid in Town " .
To say we had a good time would be a major under-statement !!! Met a ton of new ( car ) people , went to several new cruises and shows . Won two long-distance awards . Even hooked up with some boy-hood friends in Woodstock . Landed the nicest , newly renovated B & B in Dover ( just luck ) . Spent some good time with G M Dad . Our mandate upon leaving was to follow the smoke each morning as it left the chimney and to try our best to NOT act our age !! -- I believe we scored on both .
If you want to have a really good time , get yourself loose and turn the ignition key !! -- By the way , stay in Ontario !!! -- No passports , No homeland security gorillas asking stupid questions , No travel insurance , and your dollar is always worth a hundred pennies -- It doesn't get much better !! Just an opinion , based on very recent history --- Remember , a" RUT " is just a grave with the ends kicked out !! , So get moving !! -------------- LATER -- DON / FLEET 51
Well done brother....great seeing you in our neck of the woods at the old ELTA Shop. Also good to hear you made it home safely with lots of well deserved awards for that very cool ride of yours....take care....see you again soon.
I came home through Portland on Friday. I didn't see your car in the laneway.. But I didn't know which laneway to check on the way through. One of these trips I will find you in Portland. Looks like a great place to do some fishing.

Thanks guys for the replies -- What a great time and , as usual the E.L.T.A. crew were super welcoming !! -- CHUCK : If we keep trying and can live long enough , we will connect !! --------- LATER -- DON
Looks like I will be spending a bit more time down that way.. I just bought a 30ft travel trailer with a 12ft slide that I am planning on, setting it on a pad at my Son-in-law and daughters place in Merrickville. I sold our motor home as it was just not for Diane anymore. I am going to just leave it there, build a steel roof over it to cover a deck and protect the weakest spot on a trailer.. The Roof.. I need to get our place here sold , find a smaller place in town with less outside work. I can leave Diane down there with my daughter for a couple weeks while I can get stuff moved and beds made to make it home right away for her .. Keep her stress level down..I think The trailer came out of somewhere near you..A place they call the Delta ??? I never heard of it, I have only seen the trailer on kijiji.. My son-in-law Cuyler went and looked at it We are both green about one trailer from another. Cuyler said it was mint inside looks like it was barley used.. It's a place for us to have some privacy and not impose on them to much.. They all look cheaply made unless your getting a $80.000 grand park model. I just want a little summer cottage to visit and spend some time with my grandkids and family as I get older now in mid seventy's so I am just trying to plan a little ahead. I may be having to push Cuyler to build a shop..and do the maintenance on my coupe

HI CHUCK : Thanks for the reply , and good news on getting up our way . DELTA , is a small village right on Hwy # 42 , just N / W of Brockville . We should be about 3/4 of an hour apart once you hit Merrickville . ( It also hosts one of the biggest shows in our area . It goes without saying , that if I can help in any way , just pull my chain . I'm pretty sure " Old Koot " can put me right on your doorstep -- In fact we have already talked dinner plans for the three couples -- Stay in touch -- LATER -- DON / FLEET 51
I guess better late than never.. Somehow I overlooked this post.. I am trying to be down there on the long week-end.. Not etched yet.. My Son-in-law has a skid steer we rented for the week-end to dig out the top soil and put some sand and gravel down for a place to park the trailer on a permanent place.. He will get it moved into it's place hopefully .. So if all goes well we should be there for the long week-end.. I am bringing down 150 ft of #6/2 wiring to wire the trailer. I think we will just run it across the lawn untill we can get a small back hoe to dig a trench to bury a water line and the wiring. I think it's more important to dig a hole to set the septic tank in to make sure we have a place to store old pizza's and other organic waste..I was lucky and found a septic tank in Brockville a used one , a big one that we should not need a weeping bed. we can just get it pumped every 4 years .it's 3400 literes.. I will try to get back in Octember to winterize it and wrap it for the winter. Next year I will build a deck and put a steel roof over it to protect the roof. Meanwhile My week-end work awaits..
Not sure of your calculations, 3400 liters for round numbers would be about 800 gallons, average person uses between 80-100 gallons of water/day, without a weeping bed your tank will be full in less than a week unless you plan to let the gray water just soak into the ground. Not trying to stir the pot, just giving you another point of view
There is always one trouble maker out there with a calculator eh!!!.. We are only there about a week-end a month .. and I was planing one run about 30 ft and running the shower water into a dry well in the bush . We don't or wouldn't be doing any laundry So water would be minimal .. I don't think we would use anywhere near 800 gal a day.. We will just have to keep an eye on it and add a run if we have to but we will not be living in for more than 4 of 5 days a month at most and it probably would not be every month. We do have lots of room if we need more or longer runs..I just need to get the tank in the ground right now we have been using it for 4 days so far on just the holding tank ..

I know of a cottage that uses the minimal septic system just for the toilet water and waste. The other water (kitchen sink, bathroom sink and bath tub) goes out onto the lawn. It's been that way for years. I am not sure about how legal it is but I'm also not about to bring it to the attention of town either .
