Wife was driving into the city this morning when she says the 65 Pickup made a real loud bang and the steering got real heavy. She was smart enough to steer it off the highway into a driveway. Checked it over and didn't see anything obvious so gave me a call. Only a couple miles from home. I go look at it and try to start it. Completely dead like there's no battery in it. No lights, horn, signals, radio  nothing.  Get it flatbed home and start checking with my test light. Have 12 volts at battery and come around there's nothing at the alternator. Start checking the wiring and the front harness has been sliced completely in two....

Spare fan, little solder and some heat shrink and back on the road again... that's why I like the older simpler vehicles to work on.

For sure. Usually if a fan breaks, you lose hoses and the rad but we got very lucky.

That's why I will never stand in front of a vehicle or beside the fan when somebody is starting up any car. Have been that way for years must have been from stories I heard at a very young age.

It's the best reason I know for always using a shroud besides helping with cooling. I have never , ever felt an open hood car with no shroud to be safe .. I could just imagine driving through a park and sit with a crowd of spectator's and that blade coming out and injuring somebody..Any open hood car should have a shroud for safety..Glad it didn't hurt anybody and you were able to repair it .. But sure is scary, Huh..

My wife had a blade of her fan come up through the aluminum hood on her Caddy many years ago............made a neat little hole. cost me a lot as she decided to paint the whole car :)................and remove the vinyl roof and door handles.........
