On my truck to fire up the motor what is left or what else do I need to do.  The tranny cooler lines are in.  Drive shaft I will get made and installed.  The rad is in and connected.  I am going to use the mechanical fuel pump so it is now connected to the carb and has a line that I can drop into a gas can.  Do I need to have the alt. connected?  I know there was some discussion elsewhere on antifreeze.  Is there a certain type I should get or avoid?  Is there somewhere I can look to see how to wire up the starter at least temporarily to get the unit to fire up.  I guess I should get a fan belt to connect the crank to the water pump as well.  Going with an electric fan as well.  Should that be connected?  I guess that is just two wires to the battery?

Just my opinion but I would jack up the drive axle. Just incase something goes wrong.

Marten*** I am going to use the mechanical fuel pump so it is now connected to the carb and has a line that I can drop into a gas can. confuse no disbelief caution

I can't say how dangerous this is.. I have have never had it happen but I have seen many times how tragic that turned.. I would advise you to be extremely careful if you do it that way , sometimes the slightest thing that happens and you move to grab something and knock that can over and it turns into a tragedy with a fire.. so either have a fire extinguisher handy and a hose. Use extreme caution  if,  you use a can of fuel. you do not need the alt hooked up to run the engine , you should have coolant in the engine , you do not really have to have the fan hooked up depends how long your going to run it, Not long I would recommend unless everything is installed, do not over heat the engine, You will need to have a transmission yoke stub in the output of the transmission or you will puke fluid out and you will need to have fluid in the trans.. Coolant,  are you running an aluminum rad or a brass one.. If aluminum then you should get the long life antifreeze that is compatible with aluminum..

Between the lines reads get it closer to being completed.

Don't be in a hurry to start it

TMJ, long ways from complete. My brain and the way I work in my day job is to complete one task then move on to the next. Helps keep me motivated. Once I can get the motor to fire for me it will be a big step complete so to speak. Sorry just very excited.
Chuk and others, for sure being carful. I am being helped by Henry (Henry's toys/ Henry j and a friend of his Ross as well). Also Mike from Lightspeed is guiding me as much as I ask. That is a lot harder with a distance thing. Plus trying to ask the right questions here.
Rad is alum.

The reason I said this several years ago a guy in London was working on a '40 Ford. He used to back it out of his small garage to work on it.He didn't have the brakes done on it yet. To get it out he would start it and quickly put it in reverse and out of reverse again, even use the other direction gear to stop it. At the end of the night he would pull it back into the garage the same way. Well,, yes one night he didn't get it stopped. It went out the back wall of the garage. His lot was a ravine lot with about a 4-5 foot drop from the garage floor. His car ended up in the rear neighbours yard. The next day he had to tow it around the block back to his place. This is a true story he lived on Wavell Street in London. Stay safe starting it Marten

No adventure is ever as exciting as a misadventure. Be careful and be safe.
