I have acquired a flat head V8 to fool around with. It is a 49-53 motor that I can tell so far I'm still try to search and decipher what it is.
It is a basket case and seized but the price was right so I want to finish pulling it apart and maybe look at rebuilding it for a future project.
Anybody have any way of finding out what it is out of?
I am also looking for a bell housing and carb for it as well as those are the only things that appear to be missing if somebody has a line on those items.
Any info that you can provide would be greatly appreciated, I am googling it to death lol.
Always open for tips and pointers from the knowledgeable people out there.
I would offer before you spend a dime on stuff, I would get the slugs out and have it x-rayed, and checked for cracks.. 19 of 20 are cracked.. then after that you could start your budget at about 3gs and expect to have close to 5 or more in it by th time you have it ready to install.. But it would be a cool factor for your nice little truck.. Ijust seen a running one for around 500 ..If I can remember where I seen I will send you the info..Damn wish I could remember..I do know they are crazy expensive expensive to rebuild Joe on Here 33guy just bought a nice little one I think it about a 39 or something One of the early ones they were a bit smaller and he has one in a T roadster this one..

I have a fondness for flatheads. You should find a way to check it for cracks. They are notorious for cracking. There is a carb advertised on K in London area. I think Grant Manning has aluminum heads for one.
Thanks for the info everyone.
They have always been on my radar to play with and like I said the price was right.
The problem is when somebody tells a machinist there is nothing can be done with it that the gloves come off...lol
I like the crack check advice nothing worse than giving money away for sure.
Like I said just a play thing with no timeline to do it.
33 Guy thanks for the compliment the truck is alot of fun just rolled 3500 miles on it. I will have to start a new thread and show the cruise control I just built for it that makes life easy for the long trips.
This site is definitely the place to be, the comrodderie seems to be excellent and makes you want to participate. I will proudly wear my T shirt and display my decals
Pete if your a machinist you are probably familiar with magnafluxing That will work.. some machine filings and a good magnet with your skills might even work..

Thanks for the replies,
That video was cool, last time I moved that fast was when my wife came to the garage to give me a job to do lol
I can guarantee no chevy orange on it for sure.
I will be interested to see what the bottom end is like once I get it stripped.
No time right now to much fun cruisin and doing car stuff.
