I shoulda been a vet.. Wow.. These guys are robbers, with all the little designer dogs everybody has these days Vets are making a great living.. I took my little bud to the vet this morning for his booster shot. I left home at 9:05 am and was back in the house @9:56 am.. He had what they call on the invoice Annual canine exam.. 10 min $75.00 -Lepto Vaccine , Vanguard L4 annual vaccine $88.75 HST-$21.34 ..Total $185.49 I was in and out of the building in less than 20 min and that included about 7 or 8 minutes in the waiting room.. That's insane .. especially the $75.00 labour for lest than10 min..Seems like a lot of money to me and I don't believe they are worth that much. It's criminal how much they charge..I sure love my Dog but they are robbers..

My wife worked in a vet office from 92 -2003 . She knows , from experience , what to ask for and what to refuse when taking a pet in . We had 2 Pugs ( world's best dog ) for about 10 years until they passed and that cost us a lot of money even with my wife knowing what to get done .
Dentistry work for your animal is right off the chart , so BEWARE ! I swear it's more than the regular dentist .
They will want to push " heart worm " shots on you this time of year . There aren't many cases of this but when there is , it's devastating . Some of the pet food that is sold is a scam too .....lots of hype .

I have a Great Dane and a Pomeranian....I hear you. they keep telling me the Dane is skinny, you wouldn't know it by the way he eats. I free feed and his dish is always full, plus the big sweetheart is a counter cruiser, anything left on the counter he considers free game....took 4 chicken breasts out of the oven last week and we ended up having to order out...by the time I went to the porch to tell hubby dinner was ready...gone. Everytime we go its stool samples and blood work, I love them both but yes it does get costly.
I will add a bit more.. T.J.. Schnauzers are the best dog in the world Dental work you are right.. a year and a half ago he cost me 1500.00 for dental work of course they gave me the spiel about anesthetic, bla, bla, bla, but they never told me about raw food ..After that dental bill I got a bit smarter and started doing a lot of reseach.. All my research kept leading me to raw food.. Si I switched his food to raw food.. He gets a frozen chicken thigh every night for his supper now .. Since I have been doint that he never has bad breath and he had his teeth checked and they told me what I already knew .. The teeth he has left are like piano keys clean and white , no bad breath any more and he loves his Raw chicken... NEVER NEVER FEED YOUR DOG COOKED CHICKEN !!!!!!! the banes are extremely dangerous when cooked and most likely they will kill your dog.. They do not digest and make a real painfull mess of the intestines.. It is a horrible way for your pet to die..I happened to a dog we had many years ago when a neighbour put a roast pan out in there back yard for my dog and we didn't know nor did we know the danger of cooked bones especially chicken or turkey. even then when she was checking our file she discovered they they had given us the wrong heartworm medicine last time we got it.. just gave us the flea med but charged for the multi.. You would think they would have called.. She said they maked it in your file but must have forgotten to call.. This has been my vet for 35 years for my dogs..and a picture of the best dog in the world.. If it's not a schnauzer it's probably just another dog..Getting back to my point Riley has been so much more healthier since I put him on raw food.. He gets a carrot for a treat, or a couple pieces of raw sliced sweet potatoe no junk food or sweets.. He has great poops easy to clean not those loosey-goosyes he used to have..His coat is nicer and it's easy to buy a pack of 10 or 12 thighs for 5 or 10 bucks.. easy when we travel ..
Not much of an animal guy but remember, they can't tell you what hurts or ails them. They have as much if not more training then a doctor. Ask what there overhead is, etc. Goes on and on. I read recently that the average plumber will make more in his career then the average doctor buy the time you take all the years of no income from going to school and other related expenses.
Animals, yes, 1 dog, 1 cat, 2 parrots, between 8-16 rabbits oh and one horse. As long as the wife is looking after them they all get to stay. You should see my vet bills.lol
Like everything else, put the pouch in the car and head for a vet in Port Huron. If YOU need dentures, eyeglasses, maybe just a routine dental check up- less than 1/2 the price we pay here. Many of us take an 81mg aspirin daily, just bought a 360 tablet bottle of Bayer for $4.99 at Walgreens today.
i have been using the same vet's for 20yr's or so and i find them reasonable but they don't do small animals meaning house pets. maybe 200.00 a year for shots and a check up sort of thing. rarely, if something does come up it is a visit and he leaves what is needed and how to apply it. t-j is right about what and how to ask though i am thinking. i have heard some horror stories on how much is sometimes spent on pets. the closest i get to a house pet is a barn cat or 2. but there are some people that will spend a lot of money on bigger animals also if they get considered a pet. meet jose. he is a good friend but not a pet.
don't go getting to sick buddy, remember ur not a pet. lol he has been around since he was born about 16yrs ago. my wife who passed had a bunch of them and i kept a couple.
After all the puppy shots, we only do Rabies booster, every 3 years. - annual vaccination tax dogs immune system & is a waist of $$
- mainly to line the Vet pockets, with an endless supply of cash
