Ohsweken last Friday

Took my buddy out to Ohsweken this past Friday, he's been a drag racer most of his life and a really awesome painter too.

He'd never seen Sprinters live. I told him it was a well prepared, organized, fast track. He came away a believer.

They also had a car show section roped off. I wasn't aware before we left that this was happening so when we pulled in with the Comet and got directed to a roped off area I was surprised. Only one lonely orange Anglia there when we pulled in.

Then, while hot-lapping was happening ( and my pals attention was diverted) about 30 more rods pulled in. When he turned back around the field was half full of really nice vehicles. Met a fella who built a faux- wrecker from Hamilton Speedway. Did a fantastic job on it, but I forgot his name. Nice guy.

Anyway, as I don't do cruise nights / car shows this turned out to be a great evening.

Off to the flat-track for our next excursion.....he hasn't been there either. Living under a rock - or just a really narrow - but focused - field of vision( from tearing down that single paved lane at speed), regardless, we'll broaden his horizon.

Hey Randy, yup, those Sprints are amazing and it sounds like you guys had an amazing time! I always enjoy being with someone or people who are experiencing events like that for the first time...

Enjoy the rest of your endeavors!

Thanks Terry, we had a blast. My youngest and his girlfriend, our daughter and son-in-law also came up. Our oldest and his wife planned on coming but he had some bad bbq the previous day and found himself......busy.

Much as my wife loves racing of any sort, she got to babysit our grand-daughter and nuthin' takes top spot from that!

If you're sown to this side of the Lake Terry, you're welcome to drop in.....hell, any of you are.

Never been to Oshweken even though I had wanted to get up there ....just wasn't in the cards . I went to South Buxton , near Chatham , last Saturday .....bad choice on my part . With the 90 degree heat and strong winds , the track just wouldn't hold moisture and was like glass for the high horsepower class . The guys who could make some speed were in the lower classes . It was disappointing so I'll have to keep that in mind next time . I know setting up dirt is a real science .

Only went to South Buxton once, when we were camping at Rondeau. Nice enough layout, I like that the sun wasn't shining directly into our eyes and the wind seemed to take the dust to our left off #4. Only issue I could see was a big one. Apparently they had truck/tractor pulls the week prior and there was a huge hole 1/3 up the front stretch coming off 4. One street stock hit it so hard the front end came right off the car. More than a few mod's were on 2 wheels and a couple flipped. They tried fixing it at intermission but it didn't help much. Made things interesting. I'll bet the local dentists were busy putting fillings back in the following week, lol.

Let me know when you feel like coming down Terry, I'll meet you there. Mebbe GM Dad will pop over too?

Nothing like the sprinters on dirt unless it is sprinters on pavement!

I need to get there some time. Thanks for the write up and glad you and your buddy enjoyed yourselves.

Yeah, Styres likes to get a " big name" once in awhile. I avoid those nights, too cramped.

Ken Holmes from the Rodmasters built the Speedway Park tow truck. Seen it a couple of times. Didn't know anything about the car show Randy. would have been a good night. Went to Merrittville Sat night to watch my nephew race. He has a Mustang in the Mini Stock division. He raced Fri night as well but didn't qualify and then Sat night won the heat and ran 6th in feature. Know which track he likes better lol

What's your nephew's name Don? I'll watch for him. I don't get to Merrittville too often. Good for him at Merrittville though. My nephew runs with the Turners and they run sprints so.....

I wasn't aware of the show either until we got there. Lot's of nice iron. Ken seems like a pretty decent sort, he was surprised when I told him I remember Hamilton / Satellite Speedway when it was dirt. Yeah, I'm that old too, lol.

Hey, go look in the Lounge, I posted something for you.

Clinton Nicholls running a red and white Mustang with the family number 43C on it. My dad used that number from early 50s to mid 60s at Merritville, Ransomville and Speedway Park. Spent many many Fri nights at Speedway Park but only got to drive 1 feature there. They paved it before I was running my Late Model on a steady basis. The Turners have a good program going on. Is he driving or wrenching ?

I've heard his name many times now that I know. Nice little 'stang.......but it's a Ford Don? I'll watch more closely now. Trev just wrenches for them but they treat him really, really well. All reports I hear are they are a great family. Next time I'm heading over I'll let you know ahead in case you'd like to join us.

Next time we're heading over Don I'll give a call if ya like.

Are you talking about the car that Willie Borsch piloted. He was my all time favourite driver.

Wild Willy was a crowd favourite with his one hand on the wheel and the other hand on the car body . He would leave all crossed up as often as not and keep his foot in it ....saw him several times .
