Fallsguy1955 here or Brian if you prefer. I have been around hotrods and classics since I was young. I put it all aside when I got to be in my 30's with kids and other responsibilities but rekindled my passion for them in my late 50's. Since google has been around it is amazing the kind of technological help you can find online. But I still like the personal touch of meeting at a cruze night or swap meet and bending someone's ear hoping that they will part with the knowledge that they possess in their heads about what ever it is you need. Doesn't matter how old you are or how smart you think you might be you can always learn something new. IMG_20160602_151256.jpgIt's good to be a part of dedicated people to the hobby and thanks again for the invite. This is the latest one to grace my driveway.

Welcome to our shop.. Nice looking truck for sure.. As we have just been having some conversation on the use of Historic plates on hot -rods and modified vehicles I notice you have a Historic plate on your truck.. Are you aware it is illegal to drive on any of the 400 series with a historic plate.. Historic plates are banned from the 400 series highways .. Just incase you were not aware FYI..I think a lot of people are unaware of that law..smile

Welcome hope you enjoy it here. I was going to mention the historic plates but Chuck already did that. I know I'm getting regular plates for mine again.

That's an old wives tale and it's nonsense.  There is NO legal prohibition against using Historic plates on 400 highways.

I didn't think so either but some where on here just a few days ago some guys were talking about that subject and I thought some said they were told by the license office they were not allowed on the 400 highways.. So I am completely confused .. I wanted to get them because of the cost the Liberals are ripping us for plates .. but a few guys said they were told that by the ministry....I will try to find that thread..

Here is the page this was discussed on.. I sure would like to know the truth on this now..nothing worse than rumors. So what are the rules about the use of Historic plates then??

I questioned my local MTO office as well when I plated the truck. I was concerned about taking it over the border. They informed me that you could only use them for parades or car shows or cruze nights. No mention of restricted travelling on 400 series highways. Mind you the Fiberals are always coming up with new and imaginative taxes and restrictions so I wouldn't doubt it that they will do away with the historic plates for anything modified.

I was an MTO enforcement officer for 23 years and spent another 7 years in the enforcement section in head office and I know the Highway Traffic Act. There is NOTHING to prevent the use of Historic plates anywhere in Ontario, just common sense. If some idiot drives a Model T down the QEW during rush hour they’re going to have a problem, not because of the plates but because of the driver’s IQ!

The bigger issue with Historic plates is the misuse of them on cars that don’t deserve them. I’ve seen glass bodied Ford deuce coupes and T buckets that didn’t have a single Ford part on them but with Historic plates. The owners got these plates by lying through their teeth, simple as that. Aside from the restricted use in parades and such, the biggest issue is the “substantially unmodified” wording. It’s unlikely that many police officers know enough about old cars to determine what is modified and what’s original. This is probably a blessing in disguise since they then have to rely on the actual operation of the car at the time they stop them.

I searched around for an hr and was unable to find anything that backed up any restrictions for any highway use..The only thing I found was like Time Traveler said..The restriction is they do not belong on modified cars.. and I don't think anybody enforces that.. I sort of read that the problem could be more about your insurance co.. So ...

Welcome fallsguy  enjoy your stay and your plates..biggrin
