Got the Dog Dish Caps On

Picked up a set of ( '60 Ford Galaxie ) Dog Dish Caps back a few weeks ago,..finally got them installed. IMHO,..the car doesn't look so much like an overweight Slug as it did with the full wheel discs,..much better now.

The '56 Ford discs went to a good home out in Manitoba,...gentleman visiting friends in Niagara seen the add in Kijiji,...called,..drove to my place,..looked at the caps,..handed me the cash with no whining,..and we wrapped them up so as he could put them in a carry on, to fly back West.

He owns a '56 Ford that he is restoring,..exactly what they were manufactured for. At least the '55's / '56's have the sleek lines to overcome the " heavy " look,..and the full discs really compliment those cars,...( like TeeJay's '56 Meteor ), looks absolutely Great with the full discs. They were just totally out of place on the '54,..and they looked it in my opinion.

....although I do like this look , as well . Not sure but I think this might be a dog dish cap with a chrome painted or chrome plated wheel .

That is a chrome ring teejay,...the dog dish cap actually holds that ring in place,..it's an old style,..the newer rings are narrower,...and snap in like the full disc does. if I go to blackwall tires,..I will most likely put the narrower ring on,..along with the dog dish cap. The cap in the photo below,.is the factory dog dish that came out on the '52 / '53 / '54 Fords,..I have a set of ( 3 ) only in excellent shape, ..but need to find one more in equally as good condition.

If I go to blackwall tires tejay,..this is the outer chrome ring that I will use,...a narrow strip of the rim can be seen between the cap and the ring.

the dog caps look good on the car to me. it is a different style is all and it is more pronounced on a darker color car also maybe. the original discs would of looked good on that car also. 2 different styles of thinking i'd guess, maybe.

I think the skirts help set the small caps off Wayne. Look good on the car. I much prefer that look as a set of 18" or 20" or whatever there installing now.

Stone house on the hill some old Esso signs and Interstate battery and other garage stuff on the barn..5427 line 10..mobile 519-870-1900.. I am only afraid to see that car because I liked that car first time I seen it..It's a really clean suttle looking ride ..

Thank You GMDad,...I like the look a whole lot better too. When this car came up from kentucky,..it had dummy spot lights,..Lake pipes,....chrome reverse smothies,....and a few other ratty looking add ons that wouldn't do the vehicle any justice,..the old gent that briught it up here told me that all of that garbage was the first thing that he stripped off of the car as soon as he got it into his shop,...he just saved me a lot of work.

Does Swaddling's have an airstrip between Kingsville and Cottam by any chance, teejay,..??  I have done a lot of work for Ron and Darlene Bell on their airplanes,..and they live right around Cottam area also,..thinking maybe I met Bob through some friends of mine years ago, who hold a big fly-in every September at their Farm strip right down close to me here. The name does ring a bell for sure.

I knew Bob Affleck also, who used to be from around the Harrow area,...Bob used to have an old Aeronca Champ aircraft that he had outfitted with spray gear for crop dusting. Bob had a fatal crash over near Windsor a few years back,..flying a homebuilt airplane. I have a lot of relatives around Kingsville and lived there myself for 3 years back in the early '60's,..nice little town.

Wayne , I really don't have much on details with Bob Swaddling . He has a hobby shop in Kingsville , Action Hobby ., specializing in RC planes and vehicles but also has model railroading supplies . I know him from the model railroading angle because he and I belonged to the same club , in Windsor , for a while, several years ago . He's retired from Hydro I think , and pretty low key about his other interests . I read a newspaper article about him working on some guys Spitfire or Mustang plane ...can't remember ....and when I asked him about it was " Oh , yeah , I've been working on that classic ! " ....as if it was commonplace  biggrinbiggrin . As to the airstrip I don't know .

Chuck,( administration ),.... and Parklane,....Well guy's I guess the visit to St.Mary's is off,....the '54 Ford sold this afternoon. Going to a good home in Cambridge. Wish all buyers / sellers on Kijiji were as easy to deal with as this gent was. He had his eye on a '49 / '50 shoebox Bus.Mans Coupe, last week that he was supposed to go and look at today,..and the owner sold it Friday night. I didn't have the add in Toronto Kijiji 15 minutes last night when my phone rang,..and he inquired about the '54. After a half dozen emails and passing more photos to him he stated that he was taking half a day off work to come and look at the car today. He was less than a half hour after arriving making up his mind,...handed me a bank envelope with a hefty deposit,..and said he would be back Wednesday,...no nit picking,...whining,..or low balling,..bought it on the spot. So,..now I'm hitch hiking this season unless something comes up that I like. Hate to have to start another Model A Build,.but I may have to, as there sure isn't much in Canada for sale in the line of Model A's.

Well congrats for selling the car ....things can be easier to deal when you have a decent car and good pictures . As for the Model A , have you been on carsonline.com ......lots for sale , one in Alberta , some in Michigan . I'm guessing you already know about that site .

Yes teejay,...have been in there,.( prices are astronmical Stateside on those '28 /'31 cars now days ),...and I would much sooner stay within Ontario where I can get an Ontario ownership with the purchase.

No TMJ,...been trying to get hold of the guy I sold it to,...something went on there when he had it for sale, ( I can't remember all what it was ),..but thinking back on it,.. for some reason I believe that he sold the Model A to his brother. I will put more effort into it, now that I know I will be buying, and not offering up a trade deal.

I'll ask around at my local Wednesday cruise night ....never know , some people aren't computer savvy and don't want to post anything on line ....had a guy last year with a very nice 64 Comet conv .......for sale but not on line .

Did you see the 2 on London Kijiji .......29 pick-me-up on page 7 and a 28 Phaeton on page 8 ....not sure what you want to spend .

Yes,..been looking on Kijiji teejay,...actually looking for a '28 / '31 Model A Ford 2 Door Coach (only),..( non chopped or butchered ) and preferably with a Straight Front Axle,...not a Mustang II front end. Lots of Model A Coupes out there,...but no room for sitting because the roofs are chopped to hell on them,..and 0 comfort if your over 5' 2" tall. I tried sitting in a coupe with a 3" chopped roof,...no head room whatsoever. The price I will go depends entirely on the vehicles condition,.Re; workmanship in the individual build. Some of those on Kijiji right now,..judging by the photo's, I wouldn't take the time to even bother checking out,..and they are waaaay over priced,..way over.

I know what you mean by people not advertising,.. a For Sale sign stuck in the window is good enough for many of them. I appreciate you asking around,..Thank You !!

Whew!!! I am glad you sold the 54.. I can't tell you how many times I have looked at the pictures of that car.. I was getting afraid if it came here I might have to buy it.  I really don't need another vehicle. But I really liked that car. Doesn't matter I am sure we will find another excuse to for a visit.. John can pick me up and we can come tour your shop one day with coffee or go out for lunch.. smile

LOL,...well the guy that bought the car certainly appreciates it Chuck. I had it safetied for the buyer on Tues.,...didn't need so much as a light bulb, inside or out. I talked to the new owner after he drove it home to Cambridge last night,..and he said it went down the road in the 401 traffic with no effort whatsoever,...and the engine didn't even sound like it was working yet. It needed a good workout,..I never had it on any of the 400 highways.

Any excuse is a good excuse for a visit Chuck,..anytime !! I like it when O'l Edsel,...Oh,..sorry,...Parklane shows up,..we generally get into some pretty interesting coversations, reminiscing over " the old days ",....super good dude !!

Your description of the ride of the 54 reminds me so much of my late father's 51 Monarch . When I would visit him in Oakville ( he remarried ) I would ask to use the car .....he would say " just take it easy with my new wagon ( 61 Ford wagon ) and I would tell him I wanted the Monarch , not the wagon !! It had skirts and wide whites , bone stock flattie , great stock radio , and I loved the push button start . That car would turn heads . I had hoped to buy the car from him in later years but he didn't take me seriously I guess and it got sold . Loved that car .

Wayne , I asked around about a Model A at the cruise ....no luck . One guy successfully bought a 26 T off EBay and he wondered if you checked that out ?

Teejay,...I finally got hold of the gentleman who bought my Model A,...the car is in Windsor !!

Sadly,..according to the gent that I sold it to,..the gentleman who purchased it from him is having serious health issues,..so no chance in hell I am ever going to make any inquiries of him on parting with his car. As much as I would love to have it back, I wouldn't have the heart to approach the gentleman.

Here is a pic of a project that a fellow ( owner ) sent me,..nicely done up,..and the price is definitely right,...all the hard Schidt is  done. I've been trying to phone the owner to find out exactly what it does need to finish,..but it can't be too much. Will have to figure out a way to get it back home.

Ironically tmj,..just a few minutes ago,....the owner of my old Model A contacted me ,..after seeing a picture of " His Car "  on my Kijiji add,..LMAO  his reply,...(   Hi.I own the car in the picture.Don't want to sell it but I can see why you want one like it.I enjoy it immensely.Good luck in your search. Kijiji Ad ID: 1170350242 ),...pretty ironic,....LOL.  Anyway,...I am more than happy for the guy,...that was as good a news, as had he said it was for sale,..considering what I heard about his health. I sent him back a reply,  and apologised for using his car in my ad,..sent me back a reply that " it is NO problem whatsoever,..go ahead and use the pic ",.. So the old girl isn't for sale obviously. Not a problem,..I got nothing better to do,..might just as well be building up another one !!

The gentlemans name is Leo Martin that owns the car now TJ,....and he is from the Windsor area. I am sending him all of the photo's of the entire build on the car ( from the Frame on up ). I'm just happy that the guy appreciates the vehicle.

That Green one ( project ),..is done up nice,..but I would have to some how install all 3 of the rear windows back into it,..don't care much for the Sedan Delivery look,..or the fluted front fenders,..those would have to be replaced also.  Thank's for keeping an eye out up in your area TJ,..that is a great help, as I don't get to the cruise nights too often,..and I don't think that there is any model A's around here for sale anyway.

Wayne:  As much as I would love to have it back, I wouldn't have the heart to approach the gentleman.smile

I know what your saying it would feel like your trying to take advantage of the situation.. What about the person who passed that information on to you..what can he tell you about the person and are his health issues such that,  as Rick says he may need to sell the car.. If you don't make the inquiry and it got sold to somebody else just because you didn't want to offend him, that would piss you off..My thoughts are if you have a bond to the car and want it back,  if that is what you want I would go for it ..

I would be willing to make the inquiry for you if you have a way to reach the person or an address and a name..Hell I would go with you to Windsor and knock on his door to see him in person,  to see if we could buy it back for you..I think it's a perfectly acceptable goal to want to have that car back if, you in your heart want it back.. I would hate having to say down the road .." boy I wish I would have"' You hear what I am saying.. I would think if I was ill and had to sell or even if I hadn't got that far along to sell and the original owner came to inquire about the car I would not be offended..Only he knows what his plans are and how serious he is about keeping that car.. He has no blood in it at this point he has only invested money which he or his family may be in need of at this time depending on the actual seriousness of his health..

Anyway it's not any of my business, but I would hate for you miss the chance to get your cat back and I would not let my feeling of not wishing to bother him get in my way.. I sold a car once ,got it back and had to sell it again it was 10 years and I found it again ..I was very lucky but sometimes in like you get a kick in the nuts and chit happens .. Hey if you would be happy to get it back don't let emotions stop you.. If your shy I will go with you and do the talking.. I'm pretty talkative and full of hot-air and bullspit.. I am pulling for you..

Ops: Guess my post is moot ..I was typing while somebody else was too..

Agree with Chuck , there is always a way of making an inquiry and not sounding offensive . If done right , he could very well keep you in mind if and when he ever decides to sell . Look at it this way , it could give him piece of mind knowing that he isn't going to be hassling some dumb-a$$ if he advertises it on Kijiji..... better that he has a solid plan B ! JMO

You know what they say, teejay, a good salesman can tell a guy where to go, and he'll look forward to thy trip. LOL

BTW Wayne, remind me to kick you right in the a$$ next time I see you for selling that car. Nice enough guy, but obviuosly, not too swift.

LMAO,...I will do that John, if I can remember,..haha  Anyway,..I got a call from the new owner of the '54 this morning,....told me that he got it all changed over into his name yesterday,...he had time last night after work to get it all cleaned up and head out to one of the local cruise  nights near Cambridge with it,...be damned if he didn't take a best in class,..and come home with a trophy,..LMAO,..he was as happy and excited as a little kid when he was telling me about it today. It went to a good home, and to someone who appreciates it,..that's a plus !!
