Over 1600 houses lost.
When I lived on the mountain side, in the woods, I had a tin roof put on the house.
If there was a fire, hopefully those big sparks would roll off the roof.
A friend of mine, Dave, his mother lost her house out there. His sister has been evacuated and doesn't know if she will have any thing to come back to.
My buddy Ron, many of you may know him by his restored Gasser 41 Chevy Aggravator, his son lives in a mining camp just north of Fort McMurray, he says the camp is full to overflowing with evacuees and he has a hospital tent parked outside his window.............apparently people are pretty good, but being cooped up, tempers will flare. As the fires race towards them, they are not sure where and how they will be moved next................. prayers to all who are fighting the fires and to those who are facing the devastation when they return,
Just crazy. Pretty devistated for sure and more to come. Very sad. Don't imagine the big guy upstairs will get any sleep listening to all those prayers.
my brother in law family is all out there and have lost everything but the clothes on their backs. House and cars pets all gone.
Just got news, my friend Ron's son was bussed to a field in the middle of the night, 11 planes from WestJet standing there. he arrived in Toronto at 1:30 this afternoon and will be home safe.....................some good news in the middle of all that mess.......................................
Big kudos to companies like westjet that have stepped up to help
Very devastating for sure, have a cousin who is fighting the fires out there very little sleep and an effort beyond belief those people are amazing
Unfortunately it's events like this that show we are a country united.
Thoughts and prayers to all that are affected.
That's a real horror story for people for sure.. I was just watching on FOX news, they were saying they had 25,000 people trapped . They had gone North instead of south and the road dead ended in some oil workers camps They were sleeping in their cars. They tried to organize a convoy to-day to bring them back south. Unfortunately the only road back is right through Fort McMurray ..They had to turn back because the fire has jumped the highway and Fort McMurray is burning..Some people have nothing as, they were at work and were told by the police they had to go. They would not let anybody go back to their home to get pets, or anything at all. They were told they had to go NOW..I also feel bad for pets and hope the police of fire fighters will save them.. I feel bad for all the wild life too. There must be a heck of a mess of wildlife trying to get ahead of that fire, that's a lot of hectare's of wild life..Real sad just real sad..

update and video from Fort McMurray.. In this one you can see as they are driving to escape the fire all the small fire chips bouncing off the vehicles and off the roads around their vehicles..
