That always was the best tool in my tool box for a hundred years .. Right up until they came out with OBDII , then my scanner came out with a built in scope..It is better than my vacuum gage for the correct option on new engines.. but there is no better tool than a vacuum gage for diagnosing an engine internals.. every body that works on his own vehicle should read and understand how to use a vacuum gage..good post Frank..

I have been using a vacuum gauge for my tune ups for years. In my opinion it is the only way to set up a carb. A friend had an MG and was always having trouble with the dual carbs and he had quite a few different mechanics set it up. When I pulled out my vacuum gauge and adjusted the carbs he could not believe the difference in the way it ran and performed. Simple is usually better.
