HI GUYS : Under the heading " What R U working on today " -- Just finished swapping my older 38 inch tube headers for a twin branch cast iron set . 250 inch Inline Chev 6 cylinder -- One of those " Just unbolt the old and bolt on the new " -- YEAH RIGHT !!! It involves removing the carb , intake , ps pump & bracket , headers . The P.S. Pump bracket and the # 1 header pipe decided they wanted to live in the same space -- Multi hours later , with a lot of delicate grinding and a few " OH GOLLIES " , it went off to the pipe bender -- It's now home -- Sounds the same , but a much neater set of primary pipes . The original reason for the change was the tube headers just hung too low and looked like cr@p ----- Now on to the rest of the list . ------ LATER -- DON / FLEET 51
HI DAVYJ : Thanks for the reply -- I guess fun is a little like art -- " In the eye of the beholder " -- The fun started when it was over -- , But thanks again for the thought -- You are absolutely correct on having proper ground clearance . Every time you hear that scrape underneath , you start imagining your system all wadded up --- LATER -- DON / FLEET 51
Which intake you using Don ? The Clifford or the Offenhauser. I always found the P/S pump not fit well with the bend on the Clifford. Tom's cast ones fit the motor good ?
HI DON : Tom's headers seem to fit okay , as I have not detected any leaks so far ( then I haven't really looked yet ) I am using an OFFY 4 barrel , with a 525 Demon , mounted transversely . The power steering bracket now has a large egg shaped hole in it to make way for the # 1 header casting .
It took me forever to get it done , because I was not willing to just charge into it , so , little-by- little and many " Dry Fittings " later , it came together -- Sounds the same and MUCH neater underneath -- THANKS for asking -- LATER -- DON / FLEET 51
