Lawn-mowers & briggs & stratton..

This was one of the reasons I was motivated to add this forum topic..I have a customers lawn-mower..POS It is a Yardman CTC with a 17hp inteck single lung..The work was just to change oil, filters and fix a bent frame and the exhaust.. non of which was a big deal.. What shocked me is the price of parts for a lawn mower.. Oil filter.. @ CTC..$24.00 Air filter..$27.00 fuel filter cheap little red thing $9.95.. Holy batman.. I can supply most cars, light trucks with air and oil filters for 1/2 that price.. That's friggen outrageous prices.. I can't believe they can get away with that crap.. That's insane prices for a lawn mower. I just don't know how they can justify those kinds of pricing.. There has to better sources for parts for small engine stuff.. I would  rather buy Chinese than be ripped off by some American conglomerate.. Briggs & Stratton are crooks ..Where is a good place for Parts..

My yard mowers are a 720K Grasshopper front deck with a power lift.. with a 25 hp Koholer engine 10 years old and still works like new.. and I have 5 acres to mow but I look after my stuff. and all service and fluids are AMSOIL..I also have a 18hp Duetz allice that I bought in 1989 and it's still in new condition because I take care of my stuff..That yard man I was working on is just going into it's 3rd summer and what a piece of crap it is..I can't afford to replace mine so I have to take care of them..

My Grasshopper..                                                                                                                              My Duetz Allis

I have a similar Grasshopper to yours Chuck. In six years all I had to replace was the voltage regulator. I cut 3 acres. Best lawnmower I have ever had period. You do "Get What You Pay For".....

Thanks: I think I am going to have to have a day soon to just go wander around there and maybe good old Princess Auto, and maybe TSC, and there must be another cool place I have forgotten.. I like to check out the RE-Store too. I have found some cool stuff, art, couple good wrenches here and there and several handy things to have a round the house..I found a old Carb once for .25..

My Grasshopper: I love my Grasshopper I got it in 02 and it was 1 year old.. had 422 hrs on it. It just had a brand new engine installed when I got it..I bought it from one of those senior complex's where people owned the house/trailer and rented the property.. long story short..The person I bought it from told me he it serviced at dealer x..and dealer x failed to tighten the oil filter.. I know dealer X to just enough to ask some questions as to the value and condition of this mower. I never asked about the engine or why and he never told me anything other than, he had just installed a factory drop in engine. The mower came with a bunch of attachments, bucket, snow blower, blade. I sold them off and bought it all for less than 1/2 price of new.. It takes 5 to 7 hrs   4 me to cut in the spring it takes-7) as the dog days of august come dusty, dirty and 5 hrs..But, it is much more comfortable on my Grasshopper..I did have to get them to give me a new deck as the first deck was a straight up deck and every time I started the mower it left a big mess . Since they replaced my deck with 40% degree angle it does great clean cuts and I never have to do any weed trimming Except for the odd bug in your eye or a neighbour going by and waving and try to wave back with your nose so you don't mess up the lines..biggrin I think they are worth the money if you have a lot of mowing to do. I believe in maintenance and keeping my machine clean when I put it away..

Hate to tell you Chuck but Briggs and Stratton is Chinese's garbage . They haven't been made in the US for some time.

Well better late than never.. My Grasshopper Mower is ready to rock..Had a couple interruptions with visitors that slowed me up a bit.. for a couple days..biggrin biggrin but as soon as the dew is off the fields in the morning this fat turkey is gonna sit back and relax and cut grass for about 8hrs..Probably have to do it all over again in a week..It will look nice for mothers day.. So when I wake her on Sunday morning give her breakfast in bed and then open the drapes and take her the window while I put my around her and say see what I did for you for mothers day..yah'all think she will be happy ?? or am I looking for cuff up the side of my head..  biggrin   might not be my best day..cry
