My son and I have built a few cars over the years including an Olds Omega and a 1966 VW Bug. Currently we're working on a 1952 Mercury truck as a rat rod project. My son is a qualified welder and I'm a jack of all trades. My handle is Roboticist because I work with robotics for a living. I'm also a Ham Radio operator so you can bet my rig will have a 2m radio in it.
My son gave me the truck cab for Christmas, so now we're planning the rest of this budget build. I have the cab with hood and doors, and a pair of 1928 car fenders that we're going to use to put the body together. Should look pretty cool when we're done. I have found a 1996 F150 frame and 1969 Inline 6 - 240. The truck has an electronic transmission, so it's going to be a puzzle, but I think I can handle it. We want to build this over a few years and spend hundreds, not thousands if we can help it.
To me a Rat Rod does not have to be an unsafe ride with holes everywhere. It will be solid with fully welded panels and all necessary equipment to be legal. It's just going to look like a rat with an oxford blue rust paint job done with a 4" fence brush. No expense spared! ;)
Feel free to give me a shout if you have any suggestions for getting this thing on the road, but please note I am not building your truck, this project is mine and will be done my way. My son and I love what we're doing, and we're both artists with a high level of tech knowledge.
Hi And Welcome to our shop: I have seen some of your build going on ..Looks great.. Looking forward to the continuing progress..Thank-you fro joining in with us.. Need any help or have any suggestion for the board feel free to contact me or anyone here..

Looking forward to pics of the 52 mercury truck build (I have a 53).
Curious (excuse the possibly ignorant question). If you're using the older motor, what's the reason for a modern transmission and fiddling with cutting up a factory harness, wouldn't you have all kinds of issues with the computer? Wouldn't your wiring just be as simple as a new aftermarket hotrod harness of some kind if you ditched the electronic trans? Just a question, not a criticism.

thanks,
Excellent question!
It's more than the harness. I would need to build a new computer and program it myself to make this tranny work. Would I like a C4 trans? Sure, but my budget dictates to use what I have, materially and skill wise. If a C4 presents itself and it fits, it's going in. Otherwise I'm keeping this one and forcing it to work. That's just the way I do things. I don't mind the work if it saves me money and creates a possibly fun electronics project to play with.
I plan on building my own harness anyway. I have time and materials, and I find that part more fun than wrenching anyway. Been doing it a very long time on just about anything with wire in it. I am even building my own electronic gauges.
