As we move forward on the forum. Summer coming. Lots of time on the road cruzin.. I got thinking of having some or all of the members that might be interested in a rodders-rod--side assistance program. Some times when we are on the road and run into problems or issues and find ourselves in need of some help..I know I was on a tour a few years ago and blew a head-gasket on Port Colbourne (sp) Had our suitcases and the dog heading to Ottawa.. I had a hell of a time getting home.. I did find a CTC bought a few gallons of Antifreeze and 5 gal gas can and filled it with water, got a couple liters of Rizlone head-gasket in a bottle and headed for home.. It was a long nervous drive home stopping every 50-75 miles to keep it cool .. I did get home but what a mess.. I am thinking had I known somebody I could have gotten some help .. Even just to calm my wife down and take a breather from the stress till I could get a plan together.. It felt very stressful on that trip home. Everything worked out ok but I have been in this business for 50+ years..a lot older now ..
I was thinking if there was any interest in having a list of guys that can and would be interested in offering up their names and contact information to help any of the members should they be in a similar situation on the road..I have a full service shop and I will the first to step up and volunteer my shop and help to anyone in trouble in my area..
I thought we could debate the issue and see if as a group of car guys & Janice..could see if their is any interest.. I know, I would just hate to have to have somebody else work on my car because I was stuck too far away from home with no tools or place to do what I need to do..I would much rather have a friend help me out.. So I will leave it for discussion and brainstorming. I would appreciate your participation in the debate..
chuk i have put on car cruises for trips and i have never left any one behind break down or even just caught up at the light i take responsibility for all i have take out for a cruise i think haveing contacts for help are good i personally have help several cruiser broke down and i am sure there are lot of others friend or nobody you know i don't like to see any body not make the day happy i will throw my hat into this if it helps get other to join in thanks bob
You can put me down to help Chuck. I'm in Belle River so I can probably anyone breaking down near Windsor or even east of here. No trailer but lots of tools and contacts.
I can set this up so only members are able to access the information..I can just make it private and I will authorize only members .that way the general public is not available to anybody looking in they will not even be able to see the topic.. I can also make it so any new members can not access it for 30-60 days unless we already know the member..members can just print it to keep in your glove box .. I will keep this floating till the week-end so everybody can have a say , offer any ideas, if we think it's a good idea I will set it up on the week-end..I think it's a sound idea.. If we can help a brother with trouble it would come in handy..even just for any body traveling and looking to touch base with somebody it would be good to have that list.. It would save a lot of stress if your on the side of the road with a broken fan belt or a blown distributer module..so far not enough members have signed on to the idea..

this is just a thought but for those of us being helpers on the road maybe listing what we have available to help out (like parklane said) truck trailer, hoist ramp truck jack just to mention a few along with fluids belts ignition tire and wheels
thanks bob
I am just an old Sunday driver dude .. So they will be o.k. to get me to the church on Cumberland road... I do have a couple other sets around maybe next winter but I don't do the driving that I used to do so they will O.K. for me// It's the money.. I have none left..

Janice.. I think I am going to spend a week doing some fishing in South River this summer..What do U have for bait You may have to feed me..
Of course your welcome! we'll do BBQ. We'll show you guys the town........it'll be over in 5 min so you'll have plenty of time for fishing
What's the musky situation like up there Janice??
I need to get up to vermillion bay to look for musky sometime. Passed through there on my way home from BC and was at a gas station with the biggest musky lure selection I have ever seen!! rivalled any of those big giant outfitter stores!
looks like we need a fishing and boat topic in the forum.. I like fishing a lot.. I haven't done much lately but looking forward to doing more .. Member Red-Oak has a cottage in South river.. and a big, big, big boat..with a head.. I will get back in here on the week-end and update this thread with an up to date list and if we have enough interest I will set up a members only private forum for every body to enter their contact information..It doesn't have to be complicated Just to offer some help for a stranded member for even a ride to grab a part or what ever.. It's a stressfull feeling when your broken down away from home and have no idea where the closest place is to get a water pump or a belt or just some help of any kind to get you and your vechicle off the roadway to a safe place.. I don't think anybody would expect you swap out an engine or even be able to solve every problem ..It's just for safety and knowing you got a rodder friend willing and able to be there when we need a friend and a hand..I like to call it rodder commroddery and paying it forward..

I'm way up 45 minutes N/E of Kingston -- ANYBODY that needs help in any way , just Holler . ALSO , if anybody has a travel trailer and wants to muck around Eastern Ontario , I have a parking place for you to use as a base ( except this June -- I'm planning on being in Port Dover for the month ) -- I'm right on the Rideau Waterway ( same lake as WESTPORT ) for swimming / boating / fishing and the occasional campfire lies ( must bring your own lies )-- NO CHARGE !! ----------- LATER -- DON
I thought that Don-Fleet51 added a another good idea and option in regards to a place for stopping over if traveling..Yhay was something I had not thought of.but is a good idea.. If you feel you had a place or property that any of the members are summer vacationing of traveling and need an overnight to park a camper or motor home while in an area that somebody has that to offer it a cool idea.. I too have 5 acres of grass, trees, and shade for anyone in the London, Stratford, St Mary's, Goderich , Grand bend.. area..I do no not have hook-ups.. but I might be able to have an extension cord to get you some hydro, and maybe some water..and I do have a washroom in my shop..no shower, just cold water..but it's safe, clean, and free.. So maybe we can add that to rod-side assistance..I will try to have that member only and heading up on the week-end..Then each person can add what they are offering .. We add or delete options as we fine tune it..make it simple so it can be printed and carried in our glove box..

i would be in for the belleville area a couple of miles north of the 401. fair sized shop with enough tools and or equipment to get you going again, probably-maybe. if you can't fix it here then it is really broke. 2 hoists - no waiting, lol. lots of room-water-hydro for extended stays. b.y.o.b. or whatever you are into and be prepared to share. lol
preferably single, middle aged women only. ok, maybe the odd one a tad more than middle aged also. book now for your summer weekend stay. 1-800-urr-next. lol-lmao

lol-i had to... but seriously, i am in. i agree with this format. pretty much a full shop-lots of room and a larger trailer with a big winch, here.

don't worry chuck it began with the first one. "so far not enough members have signed on to the idea." if it's a good thing it will grow.

O.K. I have set up the rod-side assistance forum up.. I have set it up to be viewed by selected Known members to protect the privacy of those offering up contact information.. If you can see the forum topic for road side assistance you have permission to view and add your contact information..If you can-not see that topic and wish to support the rod-side -assistance program send me a pm .. Only members with at least 30 days membership will get access to this forum.. Untill we know who you are.. In this day and age it is critical for me to protect your personal information by keeping this private..SO if your not on the list and would like to be, contact me...You can only be added to the list or to view it with 30 days membership or a reference from a member on the list..This rule is to protect the members personal information..too many trolls to be frivolous with members personal information.. I will continue to monitor this and update the list as required..and condense it to a simple print format..
NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS
MANAGEMENT..

I'd help anyone who needs it. I don't have garage space, but I do have tools and expertise to help. Heck, I could even drive you home with your family so you can get your own tools. I'll sign up when the list comes available to me.
