Took advantage of the great weather over the weekend and getting the rear differential read for a disk brake upgrade.

I was very surprised to see how clean it turned out. Came attached to my rolling chassis that I purchased a bit ago and apparently an Ontario car.

Sure puts the one I am replacing to shame. That one was from Nova Scotia and only on the road till 1979.

I have not done that yet.

I will remove it when doing the final cleaning for paint.

Finally got around to painting the rear diff and all suspension components.
Now to find time to assemble it all.

The fun times of having to use a pipe clamp to press in the rear upper bushings.

And I'll be going with The Right Stuff Rear Disk Brake Upgrade Kit, I ended up pressing in new slightly longer wheel studs.

Good thing I have the Assembly Manual, without it I'd have a lot of leftover parts.

DONE. Well mostly, just need to slide the axle shafts back in and add the disk brake upgrade.

Shortened and Balanced driveshaft in. Pat's Drive Line did a great job.

It has been way too hot to be putting in a lot of hours on the car. but got a bit further.

Rear disk brake upgrade, came plain jane cast, gave them a coat of VHT.

Got the calipers on and rotors.

Kit came with tabs to be welded on for the flex hoses.

Nothing like working with conifer tubing, so easy to bend and manipulate.

then ran the line up to the front to connect to the master cylinder, once the body is dropped down. Getting closer.

When I first started working on my car, I purchased one of those cheap double flaring tools (clamp type) never managed to get one perfect double flare.

Mastercool is one of those, well worth the money tools.

Thanks, almost 100% done with my roller, soon will be time to drop the body back down.

Got around to starting the fuel line upgrade from 5/16" to 3/8".

The original location of the 5/16" would take it straight along side the passenger side exhaust. single one piece line.
on a 58 Chev they relocated the line to run along side the body pinch line, I was not comfortable running it there so I took a page out of the 59-64 cars and moved the line in to the driveshaft tunnel. these used a 3 piece line to accomplish this.

First had to drill a couple of holes and add grommets.

Got the rear section done.

Hope to get some time in on the weekend to finish up the front line, lots of bending and test fitting.

After 8 months of working on the chassis, everything but the 60% of the exhaust is done. The body is finally back down.

Every time I walked in to my garage I was afraid that I would bump into one of the 4x4's and knock the body off it's stand.

I think it was you who suggested 4x4's were good enough to hold the body.

Ramps are 2 - 6x6's lag bolted together. Solid and have been in use for over a dozen years.

That it is, but I have managed the last 15 years, I need to learn to stop being a packrat and purge.
once I can start to put the front end back together, I'll gain some room. wink

After the grand kids left for the day, I spent some needed clean up time in the shop.

Hey Marten, I found my workbench. wink

Finally spent some of my vacation days on the 58.

It's not pretty but it does the job. And isn't it why they created heat shield and carpeting? biggrin

Thanks.
There are a couple other locations in the trunk area, much smaller though.

Rear Quarters need tending to as well.

Was reluctant in the past to fix these area as the 220V welder I had was really impossible to control for sheet metal.

I was fortunate to win a 110V from Eastwood Tools a while back and it is so much easier to weld sheet with.

Keep picking away at the rust

Drivers inner fender's mount area was rusted out and had to be replaced.

Searched for years and could not find one that was in better shape.

Had a second Passengers side and cut out the mount area that was in excellent shape.

Just have about 10" of the lower part of the inner fender to replace. Was able to scavenge that part off the spare, now to blast it to clean it up.

Fixed up the rest of the rust on the derivers inner fender.

Cut a piece from the spare passenger side and it fit like a glove biggrin

good thing, it's in an area that is not seen once put together.
