I  agree we should support Canadian workers.. The worst thing that ever happened to Canada was ..NAFTA...

A&W is the latest high-profile player to take sides in the ketchup wars.

The fast food company said Tuesday it will soon be the first national chain to serve French’s ketchup and mustard in all of its restaurants across Canada.

“At A&W, we’re always looking to partner with Canadian suppliers and farmers who are producing natural ingredients,” said Susan Senecal, President and Chief Operating Officer for A&W Food Services of Canada. “The tomato farmers in Leamington and mustard seed farmers in Saskatchewan work hard to produce the best quality ingredients for French’s, and we are proud to add these locally-sourced products to the menu at all of our Canadian restaurants, including our restaurant in Leamington.”

Scores of individual ketchup consumers, local restaurants and even Queen’s Park have made the switch to French’s as a way to support local after Heinz pulled its ketchup production out of Leamington and French’s moved its in.

Pittsburgh-based food giant Heinz ended a century of ownership of the Leamington plant in June 2015 after selling the facility to Highbury Canco. Heinz ketchup is no longer produced at the plant, but Highbury Canco does manufacture Heinz tomato juice, beans and canned pasta there.

French’s, also an American brand, later announced it would start buying tomato paste for its ketchup from Highbury Canco.

As vocal Canadian customers seek to punish Heinz with their pocketbooks, French’s also recently announced it plans to start bottling some of its ketchup in Ontario.

A&W said it has actually been working on the switch to French’s for about six months.

French’s will be served in all of its restaurants across Canada starting in April. A&W, which is Canadian owned and operated, said the tomatoes in all of its ketchup will come from Leamington and the mustard seeds in its mustard will come from Saskatchewan.

All A&W ketchup is also produced and packaged in Ontario, according to the company.

“French’s and A&W are committed to the same values, including great taste, real ingredients and added social responsibility,” said Elliott Penner, president of The French’s Food Company. “This is a natural relationship for us. We have been working with A&W for more than six months to bring this partnership to life, and are excited for such an iconic Canadian company to become the first national restaurant to serve French’s Ketchup and Mustard.”

Also, look for E.D. Smith from Winona.
They make good jam too.
