So we went to Cobo Hall car show yesterday (Friday), and really enjoyed it. There was a 61 Chev hardtop/station wagon that I believe will take the Ridler Award. We were talking to a couple of guys at this car that said that they did the prep, and paint on it ( no metal work), and they had 4,000 hours into it.So even conservatively,at $100/hr, there was$400,00. By the time you figure drivetrain, upholstery, metal work, wheels/tires, misc., there had to be $1M in there.  Oh well, pocket change for some.

And, no, I don't do pictures. nono

John, do you think they might be telling a little white lie ? If both of them had 2000 hrs of time into it @ a 40 hour work week and took 2 weeks off for holidays that is a whole year they each spent on prep and paint? I would have thought these guys were good enough to have it done in a month at the most. Heck on Grease Monkey Garage they do it all in a couple of days... lol

Can't say if they were blowing smoke up my ____, and don't care. I do know that some of these guy spend HUGE $$$$ to get one of the Riddler Awards. and 1/2Mil is nothing to them. Someone will post pics of the show cars. Too bad they will never see the street, only a climate controlled room. What a waste.

Very true. Lots and lots of money and nowhere to spend it so they try to buy a trophy. 99.9% of the fun is driving them in my books. The .1% is building them.

I enjoy building them too, but, ya, driving the wheels off of them is why you build them.

To put it in perspective, many Riddler winners have over 1.5 > 2 million in them............I saw that Chevy Foose built when it was under construction, it took 4 years. they said there was $1500 just in machinework on the gas pedal and arm alone! When there is a team of metalmen working 8 hours a day..............it adds up real fast! The guys that play in that league are a total different game................
