Making the wife happy. We bought her a 1970 MGB roadster about 9 years ago from Georgia. Pretty nice and complete car. Didn't like the color and it had some questionable body work done by a previous owner so fast forward 4 years and the car had been completely stripped to a bare rolling shell and has been repainted and back home. Now the smart thing to have done would be to put it back together while it is fresh in your mind... keyword being smart. Car got covered up in one of the bays, parts put i boxes on the shelf and onto the next project. Didn't help that I bought and traded off or sold 4 or 5 more cars, one of them being a 1974 MGB which needed some parts off the shelf. So this month finally got back into finishing the car off. Do you have any idea how much time you can spend looking for parts that you know you have and refuse to go out and buy a replacement?? lol Never again. Start to finish on one only. Car coming together good now. Want to do our own interior so going to buy a roll f vinyl and go at it. Was talking to the guys at Platingmaster in London about doing the bumpers, Has anybody had sucess or problems with their work? Will post some photos later.
Can't say I remember Plating Master ..I do remember Mid-way plating and some work done by them but that was a long time ago..I don't recall any issues with them other than I know the work was not show for a concours restoration but it was just fine for me and in the price range I could afford..With the cost of chrome plating in to-days market I might be tempted to search around a while and see if you couldn't by some nice re-pops at a fair price..The last time I had some plating done was in Kitchener, I forgot the name ..I thought it was hugely expensive.. I had to get some pitted door handles and some special mirrors and a couple smaller pieces of some die-cast pieces of trim ..took about 6 weeks turn around and $1,300.00 I thought at the time I would never be able to afford any re-chroming in the future..I know they had to be filled and polished but hokey -mokey..that's is just to rich for me ..The trouble with sinking all this money into a car is it will not likely ever be in somebody's living room as an end table and sooner or later it will sit in somebody's cold damp garage, shed, tent, covered with plastic to sweat and rust again..As I age ..hell I am aged, I should say as I grow more rusty myself there is less money to spend on toys ..at least for me, I need to be very conscious on what and how I spend my pension ..Time has come to be frugal and try to stretch what I got to take care each and every days needs..

GMDAD i personally have not deal with them but my friend has and had a bad experience with them in there work they did it over twice and still never got it right the chrome bubbled and peeled and he ended up out the money and the worked not done right so i would be leary of them i did see this work and they will not touch any of my stuff
thanks bob
Bob, how long ago was your friend's work done. Apparently changed owners in last few years. My buddy had his MGB windshield frame chromed and is very happy with it mind you still sitting under his bed until car is finished.
Rick, nice catch on the name but at my age it's quite easy to become dyslexia and just happens to work with our choice of cars... lol
I gave Steve a call and left a message. I have had plating done by Cambridge and was happy with it but they are over $500. more on these bumpers and are budgets are not what they used to be. Too bad Galaxy was still not in business in Toronto. Had the bumpers on the '40 done in 1982 and still look good.
it was around 2 years ago when all this happened as i said i am not here to judge just add some info that had happened i was there to pick up the parts and we were not able to use them just were to bad of a job i hope all is better now but i know i and my friend will not be going back
The car looks real good thanks for posting pictures i got some of the brakes on the 57 i will post soon
thanks bob
GM Dad,
that's the going rate for a straight bumper to be rechromed, actually fairly low. Gerry at plating master is more of a bike guy so other stuff is of less interest. Cambrige Custom Chrome is expensive BUT their work is flawless. There are the guys that bought Medway plating here in London but they do the metal finish and send it somewhere for the dipping. After looking at the car in the shape it's in now, it deserves some good chrome.
Wayne, your saying I wouldn't be happy with work done by Plating Master? Is Superior the ones that bought Medway? I never got a reply back from Superior yet. I agree that Cambridge is real good quality but at $600. for front and same for rear. Might have to get used to Kraft and cheese again....lol
NO I didn't say you'd be unhappy with Platingmaster's work. He's as expensive as Cambridge and really doesn't want to do car parts. As far a Superior goes all the chrome on my 29 was done by Steve. I was more than p[leased with the outcome and so was the new owner.
Picked up a new gas tank and sender for the car today along with a couple of new door glasses (old ones very scratched). Still experimenting with the dash in it. Want to have something a little different.
I have a alternator for one of those and maybe a dist. cap I'll look around and see what else I have. I had tons of MG stuff but I gave most of it away...'
We used to have a mint as good as new wire wheel '69 in Primrose.
