Junior,... that's my best buddy of many years, ( since we were teenagers ) Jimmy Horvath from Tillsonburg. He just finished his 54th ( accident free ) year of crop dusting / spraying this year. Jim bought that airplane brand new in 1976, when he went into business for himself, after flying 10 years for another operator over in Norfolk County, ( Lammens Spraying Service ). Jim started out with Lammens, flying the old 85 hp, Piper J-3 cub crop sprayers, and eventually worked his way up to flying the big old 450 hp Pratt & whitney powered Stearman bi-plane sprayers. The plane in the photo's is a 1976 Piper Pawnee ( 235hp ) sprayer, it was red and white when Jim bought it back in the day, and I totally rebuilt /re-covered the entire airplane ( fabric and paint ) for Jim 5 years ago ( with the exception of the engine of course ), and we changed the color scheme to blue and yellow at that time. There is a total of 24 coats of Butyrate and Nitrate dope, sprayed on the fabric covered surfaces of the plane, with a complete wet sanding between each coat, kind of what you might call a little labor intense, that type of work,.. lol
Grain and corn is pretty much the main crops that are sprayed by air now days Junior, tobacco spraying by air went out many years ago. Jim still does a lot of work in the grain country up in Huron County, then back and forth to Huron County and here for the corn spraying season along with another pilot.
You would no doubt love flying if you ever got into it, I started flying back in 1962, and remember my first solo flight like it was yesterday. Just gave up flying back about 10 / 12 years ago when I sold my last airplane, I loved flying aerobatics, then I began to notice the old reflexes were starting to slow down, and eventually the time does come when a person has to call it a day and move on.

Yes, I hear you there Wayne when we must move on. I met a "Flyer "at a friends restoration shop in 2018/2019 think his last name was Reasch?
Anyway he told me of a story when he flew in the Corinth area; my late Uncle Goerge was on the tractoer in the feild on the east side of SpringerHill
at the north end and was 'Buzzed' by this fellow. They were good friends and regulars at North Hall on #3. Uncle crapped his pants on the spot, got off the tractor and speedily went home to change. No words were ever spoken about this. I laughed my butt off!!!!! George was a Tuff Guy outside,a puppy inside. Wish I was the fly on the fender that day;would have loved to see it happen.

That was probably Jim Race that you are referring to John, he was noted for his " buzz jobs " with his airplanes, and he also lived around the Corinth area,. At one time, he owned the log cabin / paved airstrip, where Gary Card is located now.

Jim Race bought the log cabin with the paved runway, ( airplane and all ) off of Bob Byerley, Bob built the log house and the big hangar there also. Byerleys moved up north after selling that property. Bob was exceptionally good at restoring older cars, too, and worked at that for quite some time. I stopped in to visit Bob at his place in the North country back many years ago, and he was still restoring old cars, and staying quite busy at it.
