I'm swallowing the pill and having everything shipped to my home. With the exchange rate today and the ridiculous cross border shipping rates, the cost of building just doubled. USPS, FedEX, UPS and DHL still deliver to Canada. I've had a parcel stuck in Chicago at the USPS International clearing center for the past week.
So the saga continues. I just got off the phone with MidFifty. They are the company that I want to buy some stuff off. They have free delivery in the US when you buy over $1000.00 of stuff. I put a list together that came in at $1065.00. All the glass I need, power window kits, extra reinforcing that I need, and a bunch of nuts and bolts. They just quoted me $635.00 to ship to my house or $550.00 to ship to a commercial address. The exchange sucks but something I have to live with. It is the shipping rate that is a killer.

Maybe we have to get creative. Find truckers that go to Arizona to pick up produce. Maybe the driver will bring your stuff back for a reasonable fee or check with other shipping companies that do cross border shipping and get their rates if you know the size of the package. This BS about free shipping anywhere in the US but rip off rates to Canada especially when you will probably still have to pay brokerage and HST when the parts arrive.
Warren
ps: do you really need the parts before the border is opened up again?...........................CDN$1000
Try contacting a shipping company and ask them what it would cost for them to pick up parts in the USA and deliver to your place. I'd have a real hard time paying that shipping charge.
Try myusaddress.ca. then use the Push it North service , the option to pick it up in Ogdensburg or Prescott is closed. You can take advantage of the free US shipping, have a flat rate of $29 to clear customs and $9.95 to ship it across the border. They use Canada Post to ship it to your house from there. Not the cheapest but the best option I've found for now.
This is interesting. The web site says they are closed but they will still ship into Ontario. From there they will get things delivered. I sent them an email of what I want to do. Says my package is to big for Canada Post. Will wait and see what they say. If a courier can get stuff from them why can't I? Put the box outside the door and I will get it, much like most retail stores are doing. I will let you know.
Chuk, I noticed this is now a sticky, thanks, I'm sure others would like to know as well.
I just signed up as well and found the same thing. I have two large shipments soon to be delivered up from the US. Hopefully they can get married to a shipper like DHL or Purolator in the near future to handle the oversize parcels. If you are dealing with a company in the US that provides free shipping within, then this is a small price to pay to get it to your home.
It is not the friendliest site to create an account on, I had to go through the whole routine twice because it took me back to the create an account site beginning. I'd say try again. I just talked to their office and they will handle any size shipment using Canada Post, FedEx or an LTL shipper. Call 1-800-476-7497
I just got off the phone with a very nice lady from MyUSAddress. Here is the deal. They still received stuff in Ogdensburg. Fees for that are still the same $6.00 per box or $60.00 per skid or over a certain weight. Once there you choose the push it north choice. They look after everything to get it to Prescott for $29.00 per vendor or supplier. If you buy from ABC and QRS then 2 times $29.00. This includes delivery. You pay duty and taxes on top of that. So the only additional fees so far are the $29.00 to get your stuff across the border. You would have to pay duty and taxes anyway unless you are lucky or in the USA for a few days. Clear so far, hope so. Once in Prescott they will look after getting you a delivery company to get it to you. You cannot pick things up yourself. This is because you need to sign for your stuff. The delivery company does not. In fact they do not get out of their trucks, MyUSAddress loads the trucks and they drive away. So you then have to pay a delivery company to get it to you. Warren just listed the company's they use. I asked about delivery rates but they would not give me them as they (delivery company's) would like to see the package first. I bet they have standard rates they use but I have not looked at that yet.
Does this help guys? Looks like we can spend more time building stuff. Now to find out what is the cheapest spot to deliver to from Prescott.
I clearly have to much time on my hands. I went to the FedEx web site, they have a rate thingy on there web site to get an idea on how much it will cost for deliveries.
Hoping this helps you guys out.
I know this is an old posting but I just read it now.
I've used a company called CrossBorder Pickups and they have been good to deal with and reasonable. They issue a US address and box number and you have the order sent there. It can then be picked up in Mississauga or Markham. I believe they can forward the order to you but I haven't used that service yet.
