Electronic rust control

Recently I purchased a 2008 truck with electronic rust control.  I am unfamiliar with this type of rust control.  The truck appears to have no rust anywhere but I was told that one rocker panel was replaced because of rust. Should I rely on the electronic or should I get the standard spray in the future ? Thank you in advance.

I did a lot of research on these devices before I bought our new SUV last year and I consider them a scam. The theory behind them is solid and they work for pipelines and aircraft carriers but they're useless for automobiles. My sister's car had one from new and a gas tank strap rusted off. Don't waste your money. I use Krown.

We purchased a new Sante Fe late last Fall. The Salesman tried to flog one off on us and we said no. I've seen vehicles with them installed , rusted beyond belief. I saw one car where the inner body panel the device was attached onto with holes rusted through.
Oh yeah, the Salesman said it was only $1500.00. I've seen them online for $50.00. Once a year oiling works for me.

I bought one for the last trailer I got. Always a problem when aluminum meets steel. Was told it was good forever as long as I had it checked annually. Three years into the trailer and we had some problems with the aluminum corroding. Went back where we bought it and had the trailer serviced annually. Asked about the warranty. They laughed and said it was only for 2 years. And they no longer sell them because they don't work. I was some pissed.

Absolute junk!!!!
I have installed hundreds of them at the dealerships I've worked at. The only thing they do is make dealerships money.

Thank you all very much. It seems to be unanimous. I will get the standard and reliable method in the Spring. Again, thank you for your time.

Cuddles,
Do your research if you are using Krown.

Some Krown outlets cut corners and others go above and beyond.

I have one outlet 5 minutes from me but drive 30 minutes to another that has a very good reputation.

OK everyone, now for part two of the same question. I have ruled out the electronic rust control. I will disconnect it. So I researched the top 3 rust control chains: Corrosion Free, Krown & Rust check. According to what I discovered, that appears to be the order of their effectiveness with Corrosion Free (CF) coming in at an easy 90% effective. I'd never heard of them before but I did manage to find on outlet not too distant in Bowmanville. So with that I thought my research was done but no. I was warned that CF is best used on new vehicles and Krown is better for used vehicles. CF bonds to the metal fine and seals it fine but it seals in whatever elements are on the metal at the time of treatment so if you already have rust or if it is the wrong time of year (like now - winter), salt and brine and moisture will be trapped between the metal and sealant. At least that is what I am led to believe from a body man. For used vehicles, he says Krown is best. From personal experience, I know that the Krown rep in Peterborough is questionable but there is one in Bowmanville. So I must decide between CF and Krown. Has anyone had an experience with Krown in Bowmanville? At this point, I don't know whether I am going to CF or Krown but they are minutes apart in Bowmanville and I guess that with about 9 weeks of winter left, I better get my truck into one of them. Any advice is appreciated.

Never heard of CF. Are they an oil spray type thing? I have used and seen Rust Check and Krown over long term. My preference is Krown because I find their product doesn't have as much effect on door rubbers etc over the long term.

I got this message from a close friend - Not sure of the stuff your getting put on the truck for rust proofing. I know from my uncle who is a body guy and talking to body shops, oil spraying should he used on used vehicles and there is another treatment that once its applied it looks like cold bacon grease but it goes hard. That should only be used on new vehicles. If it's used on used cars it traps in the dirt, water and moisture. Another thing I was told always try and do it during the hottest days of summer when it been dry. Once you spray it and there is moisture it mixes with the oils used and stays. I found a great thing to do is get under and into the wheel wells with a hose and spray out any dirt. I was once told. What ever touches dirt becomes dirt. - The "bacon grease" treatment to which he refers is, I believe the 'Corrosion Free' application. Like you, I had never heard of any Corrosion Free (CF) chain anywhere before. The Canadian Forces normally use it for there vehicles But from what I learned on the net with a little research, it is considered the most effective at 90%. I understand there is another outlet in Oshawa. At this point, I am considering putting Krown on for now and then CF in the autumn, thinking that through the summer I can get under there and really clean (spray) and allow to dry prior to a CF treatment. I know Krown drips all over the place for a week or two or more but I fear CF will seal in the damp and other bad elements at this time of year. Any thoughts are appreciated.

If it helps anyone else, after all my research and input from those here, I am going to Corrosion Free (CF) when the roads dry up and until then, I am going to a car wash occasionally to do the underside and clean the debris and loose rust out. CF is, to my mind, the best for your buck. Check it out. There are outlets other than the Bowmanville shop but it is closest to me. And it sounds like you may want to avoid having it done at Canadian Tire. I would. Thank you everyone.
