open wheel hot rods

My cousin from Maine and his buddies are planning a long haul cruise to the salt flats in UTAH and asked me if their open wheel hotrods would be legal to drive through Ontario?  I said that there are lots of them on the streets and he should be fine.  I know the "safety check"  issue has been discussed a lot along with the "open wheel" topic but the thread with all that info I could not find.

So what do you guys think?  Is he fine to travel through Ontario with out getting harassed by MTO or the police?

Thanks for your input in advance.

Rich

I've gone all over the province in my fenderless 29 and never had a problem. It has to deal with the "fair weather" fender law. But I've been caught a few times in down pours and again never a problem.

It has mostly to do with attitude. There’s lots of fenderless cars in Ontario and many have made long trips, but their drivers use some common sense and don’t act stupid behind the wheel. Legally, the Highway Traffic Act requires fenders (“mudguards”) that “reduce effectively the wheel spray or splash of water from the roadway to the rear” when on the road and there’s a stricter requirement in the Regulation for a Safety Standards Certificate for resale, but again, if the driver behaves it's usually not an issue. Good karma helps of course!
