Got to go on a tour of the windtunnel in oshawa last night. I didn't take too many pics and they don't really show you how cool everything was to see. But we did get to crawl inside the fan which was kinda cool! Pretty much all the auto mfg's are using the place for testing. What was intersting was that all the auto mfg's bring in each others cars to test out the competition as well. They did the destructive testing on the new Ford GT here and NSX. Lots of cool stories they had, wish I could remember them all.
We put a 60 caddy on the dyno rollers but there wasn't a hole lot of demonstration using the car. But it's got two dyno rollers and the hole floor rotate to change the angle of the car against the wind. The rollers are in synch with the wind - so as you accelerate the wind increases to match.
The Dyno (the big blue machine) is on air bearings basically a hovercraft and can be moved by hand by 4 guys. They said it's easy to get moving, but stopping it is a different story. lol
Sweet caddy! I believe it is one of only 2 climactic wind tunnels in the world (other is BMW's in Germany). I'm working at UOIT now and should be on a tour with some students soon. Hopefully! I believe they don't really allow pics to be taken too - I know some students who had to put stickers over the cameras on their cell phones, even.
