Hey folks, I'm a life long gear head with an addiction that started when I was 12 with dirt bikes and seaflea's, the addiction progressed in my 20's when I built a rock crawler/Samurai, had a few older Honda bikes then bought a post war classic airplane (1947 Luscombe 8E). Now I'm in my mid 30's I'm taking control of my sickness, I sold my street legal VW Manx I built after I became a father. Now in my mid 30's with a job flying airliners I've settled in Barrie and a have a heated 2 car garage to make my next creation.
I bought a very clean 1966 Ford F100 flareside short box in September 2016. It had a 352ci FE and a 3 speed auto, Twin I beam suspension and manual drum brakes. I bought the truck off the internet only having seen a few photos. I was amazed how nice it was once it was delivered. It I had already had it safetied (it passed with no problems) by the time I got to see it the first time. That's where the romance stopped. I drove the truck 10km home it ran perfectly, no smoke, no ticks, no leaks. But what a hunk of crap to drive! My Dad told me the old cars/trucks didn't handle or stop well but I had no idea it was going to be dangerous. Manual steering and manual brakes both suck and the 22L/100km fuel consumption sure does take the fun out of driving it any distance. $25/hour in gas, it's almost cheaper to fly my plane!
I'll start a build thread to show what I've don't to the truck but here is what I've done since November 1st when I took it off the road. Removed the 352FE & auto trans and sold them. Removed the front body work and cut the I-beam suspension out of the truck. Installed a 2010 crown vic suspension from a 2010 police car. Power rack, power disk brakes, modern suspension and anti sway bar. I bought a small turbo diesel 4 cylinder engine with computer. Ordered a few go-fast parts for the engine : new turbo, intercooler, injectors, clutch it should be close to 190hp and 300lb/ft when completed. Everything is coming together well and it will be back on the street when the snow clears in the spring.
That took more then I wanted to introduce myself. Nice to meet you folks and I look forward to learning from you.

Hello And Welcome to the shop. Thanks for a great intro.. Introduction to the other members is very much appreciated by everyone, gives us a good overview of where your at and your skill set.. Looks your dug right into your project.. How was that crown-Vic for width in that truck.. Is that truck a uni-body? Pictures are nice.. I would be interested in seeing a couple pictures of that front end install.. We have a great group of guys here that are helpful and always willing to help out a brother..
Thanks for joining us

you must be thinking of another plane. I've owned this one for about ten years. Before me was a young guy from st Thomas and a guy named Knot from the London area he owned it since 1972. I wish cars had a Journey Log like aircraft knowing where it was and every bit of maintenance it ever had would cool.

Perhaps I seen it at St.Thomas airport,...just up the road a few minutes from me. Used to frequent the place quite often.
Yes,...a log book for a vehicle would be real interesting and quite useful in some cases, and especially if kept to detail like aircraft logs. Did you by any chance ever run into Bill Carter on your travels,..??,...Bill was a senior Captain with Canadian Airlines,...and then went on with Air Canada before retirement. I re-covered 3 different Pitts Specials for Bill over the years, ( Pitts S-1 / S-2B / S-2S ),....he flew many airshows every season all over Ontario and the East and West Coast,..and was sponsored by Esso for many years, great guy.
