when i have seen someone asking for input pertaining to whether they should consider buying one of these tranny's or not i have mentioned that they are a good tranny with the o/d option but if they were thinking some track time with the car i wouldn't recommend this tranny. i have one in my 69 hemi coronet and my beef was the 2nd to 3rd shift being a hang up when speed shifting. being from the old school of just crashing it hard pushing sideways and forward from 2nd to 3rd i found with the tko it would slide into the 5th gear slot and not go in, obviously, or hang up in the gate between 3rd and 5th. my thinking was there should of been a lock out of sorts for 5th and reverse.
well i just got this info tid-bit from tko and it seems i wasn't the only one with the beef and it appears i/we aren't shifting it properly, humph! if this is the fix then the next grey area will be teaching an old dog new tricks but they also say you are never to old to learn new tricks, lol. we will test that theory next summer at arm drop as i have never put it on the track with the 2nd to 3rd hang up. anyway, i am mentioning this because i know i have said this was a perceived p.i.t.a. and maybe?? it is not.
The shifting issue is what I had and was told the same thing to use my palm to shift. I will try and find a video of me at the strip at night a few years ago. One fellow said I had a good shifting auto and a friend said it was a stick car.
