Hi Rick: Thanks for all thos great pics of your truck.. She is a beauty. This truck my Son bought while I was away so I never seen it till we picked it up on Saturday..He bought right under 10.. and it has a solid clean body ,does not seem to any or very little bondo if any.. So knowing what body work takes in time and dollars that is a plus. Looks and sounds like the engine has been rebuilt it is pretty clean except it has been sitting for a couple years.. The electrical system is a nightmare as you will see in the following pictures I will post.. Somebody hsa really cobbled the ignition system.. and all the wiring will need to be ripped out and redone over the winter.. It has a 78 camaro clip and it looks to a good install with all the welds look good .. The engine runs solid and strong. It ran well on the drive home up until the last couple miles when it stalled every time he had to stop for a stop sign or light.. Really had to feather it hard from neutral to drop it into drive or reverse for that matter it would just stall instantly.. As soon as you pull it into gear hot or at operating temp .. I pulled the jets and blew out the idle circuit with no difference.. I can't hear a vacuum leak but I am suspicious of one , if you start it cold it runs fine and does not stall untill it gets to operating range..when warm you can not get it into gear without it stalling instantly..Take a look in the pictures at the wiring for the ignition wiring.. Somebody has a real cobble job on here.. I have spent only an hour on it so far but I came in scratching my head.. Why the hell would somebody cobble up a mess like this.. I need to start with the timing and make sure it is 12-14 , check for vacuum leaks before I do anything. and pull the distributor cap and see what else I find and then make a plan.. but for sure all this wiring needs to be rewired .. Needs a bunch of other stuff. interior, Passenger door glass, new drivers door hinges's. and ??? here are some pics of the wiring and the truck..
And a few more pictures. I would a couple shots of under your hood if you could please and thank you..
she has been wired by somebody who never be allowed to work on anything electrical.. But it's his now and he has wanted a 50 Ford for some time and he thought he better jump on it.. and It does seem to well done other than the electric and then finish up the interior. and he would like to change out the wheels and tires.. But no hurry for that..
I like electrical way better than bodywork.. Paint and body kills me now-a-days ..I can say I have probably done a hundred paint and body jobs during my career but, my Poor old body gets tired out to fast anymore.. I can usually find a nice place to lay down to do wiring and just take a nap from wire to wire..

Maybe a good winter project would be a new aftermarket wiring harness.
Painless, American Autowire, Kwikwire, Ron Francis, Rebel wiring all come to mind here for a relatively simple project.
For sure it' will get a new wire harness.. new gauge package, new steering column, new friggin seat.. I never sat in one of these before Glad it's not mine wow!!! these trucks have a really tight cab.. It will need a short column I found just moving it out the shop I could not get behind the wheel there is just no room in the cab for a fat guy..I am looking for a 75-ish Chevy van steering column anybody got one for sale should say a tilt column.. looking for a 75ish chev van tilt column..

yea, they are a snug fit for sure, lol. i'd like to put a tilt column in close to the same length for austetic's. i am still on the fence whether to go with a custom like something from flaming river or something factory. if it is factory it will be something from another ford product though. what i don't know, but i am on a ford truck forum and i am sure i will get a quick lesson. lol -as for the wiring that's the way to go, with a kit. make up a list of what you are thinking of doing now and later, and then add 2-3-4 more for future expansion. maybe 2 under the hood and 2 under the dash, maybe. i would see if you can buy some extra of the same connector's they use for the future also. i would of went for a kit if it wasn't for the e.f.i. wiring stuff, that was working. -if it ain't broke--don't fix it. lmao
