I need some help if anybody has any info they can provide.
I am looking to bring a complete donor vehicle from the states and have now discovered that the process has changed.
The info still has to be there 72 hours prior to arriving with the vehicle, however now the census bureau is involved and you have to have a AES number. In order to get the AES number you have to be an american citizen. In order for the owner of the vehicle who is american to get an AES number he has to get an EIN number through the IRS basically opening up his own business to get this number.
Once he gets this EIN number he can get an AES number and register the car so that it can be exported.
They also said you can use a freight forwarder and just google it, well I did and yes names come up so I call numerous ones and they say we don't do it or have never heard of such a thing.
Has anybody gone down this road yet and if so do you have a freight forwarder name you can pass on.
I don't want to ask my friend to jump through those kind of hoops just to fax the title to customs 72 hours prior.
What turns out to be a day trip to pick up a car may turn out to be a weekend trip to cut up the car to bring it back in pieces because you don't have to do this process for parts.
After hearing about all this AES and EIN number stuff the only letters that come to my mind now is LCBO.

Hi Pete: First I would recommend you make use of your federal MPP They usually have an office someplace that you visit or call.. They are supposed to know all the answers and it is their job to be your representative and help you complete this process.. They should be able to provide you with the correct procedure to complete this transaction.. I am not at all sure if you really have to jump through all these hoops on a vehicle over 15 years old.. Is it a complete car or is it a parts car.. I was having a quick look at their web page but it looks like it needs a couple hours reading..make the buggers earn some of what we pay them for They aren't afraid to ask for your vote..

The letters you are using are different then what we had to do. Would suggest calling a customs broker. That is what they do for a living. So border crossings only need the brokers paperwork 72 hrs. ahead of time. I went through the same day but had the paperwork ahead of time. It is a very confusing process for sure. Different states, different rules and no one seems to know what you are suppose to do. I think it is to give more people work.

i have brought a lot of cars back over the years, none lately though, roughly 3 years. what i was told once by the canadian side after i chirped about nearly getting run over crossing traffic on the u-s side to pick up the paperwork is that the paperwork was for the u-s side to show it left the u-s, not our side. they/we don't require that paperwork to enter. if you don't do it and the car dose return to the states it could be assumed as stolen as no paperwork showed it as having left. if the car is just for a parts car then i wouldn't stop on the state side as you are not obligated to before crossing. on the receipt i would have, sold as is, where is for parts only. - lol- having said that and not bringing anything back for awhile i would also probably check on the canadian side to see if there is a requirement now with the regs changing on the u-s side before doing it. i am guessing that it might be a bit easier checking for a yes or a no on our side, rather then trying to jump through all the hoops on their side, if the paperwork is now required. when asking our side make it a yes or no question pertaining to a 20yr old car. if it is yes then talk to a broker and ask how much and add it to the total cost and make a decision. you can still bring it back yourself but when you get to our side you will be more or less pre/cleared. you are just doing you own trucking which is another kettle of fish using carrier's. if it won't drive onto a car carrier trailer get your big wallet out. lol

Checked out that website and gave them a call I'm going to use them to get my donor home
35 us is the cost which is only like 500 Canadian lol so I'll bite the bullet. I'm getting the car for virtually nothing however I'm going to kick in a 60 or 2 of crown royal which is my buddies drink of choice

Should have added that all you do is fill out their online form, they send you the itn number for aes then forward the documents to us customs 72 hours in advance
They take credit card or Paypal

Will be in a few weeks or so have to get Kalamazoo out of the way then probably the weekend after to go get recipient car then I will go get donor
If it is for parts and not being registered, I would think you could just drag it home and declare the whole car as parts...........we did this with a 36 Sedan about 6 months ago..............they did not question us at all, just went in and paid the taxes on the CDN side................
Sounds like you have the right paperwork read just in case you need it.............always better to be safe than sorry.........
