I've been bugging my daughter and wife to get a dash cam for various reasons lately but this incident should sway them to see the light!
My wife arrived home after work today with a Toronto Star article regarding a driver that had been charged by the Brampton Police as being responsible for an auto accident when he was actual innocent. Basically he claimed a woman turned in front of him in an intersection when he had the right-of-way. The officer took statement from 2 bystanders that both said he was at fault. The driver stated he had a dash cam but that fact was not given until after he had been issued the ticket and the officer told him to take it to court and claim innocent. To me it sounded like the officer did not want to take the time to let this guy prove his innocence at the scene. He posted the video on Youtube and it clearly shows he was innocent and that she should be charged.
You can clearly hear the bystanders stating the woman turning had the right of way but if you look up you can see the light solid green for him! Hopefully the obvious accent of the dash cam owner did not have an influence of their view of the incident. She could have killed someone and the bystanders all lied!
I talked about dash cams a few months back as I was considering it and still am , just haven't bought one yet . With distracted driving being a main issue these days , an the inability to police it , some sort of back up evidence is necessary . I don't have a cell phone but most people do and it , along with texting , has become an epidemic with young people .....they have to be chatting seemingly every waking moment , driving included .
