So Chuk was down to my place and seen some other stuff that I enjoyed before having the chance to build a hot rod.  He suggested to post some of it here.  Chuk, if this is the wrong spot please move it and let me know.  Henrystoys has also seen some of this stuff.  So I will post some of it here to see.  This is a tractor trailer/float I built.  The truck is modeled after a Kenworth with the float being the type that disconnects to unload the equipment.  The drawings for it come from a company called Toys and Joys.  The unit together is about 50" long.  Made out of maple for most of it with walnut fenders and other dark accents.  The wheels were bought.  The front ones I built inserts for.  The back ones I drilled the holes in to look more like the real thing then they were painted.  Any round dowel I buy but the rest I built in the shop.  As with anything else there are a few features that I add/subtract or change to make it my own but no one will know unless you look at the drawings.  It has four coats of a clear satin finish on it.  For me this has been an evolutionary process as I have had woodworking as a hobby for about 25 years or so.  Slowly getting more tools and trying harder projects.  Over time and if you like this I will put up some more.

Thanks Chuk for suggesting I post here.  Actually don't think to many people have seen these as I don't post anywhere else.  Used to check out a woodworking forum but as things change I check it less often then ever.  Plus this hot rod stuff if fun now.

I have an idea, if someone wants to buy this rig then they would be the only one to own a woody tractor trailer.biggrinbiggrin

Anyone interested?  Or is you know of someone.

My neighbor has something very similar to yours, not as much detail as you have but his also has an excavator on the trailer, he bought it at a flea market near Hagersville many years ago, if your wanting to sell it let me know I would love to own it, great work you have done.

Thanks Hibred. Stay tuned, rumor has it that I built an excavator as well. Will post some pictures some day soon. Don't want to fill this web site with my other hobby all at once. Also looking to see if others like looking at this stuff. I have a bunch of it.

Ok so more info, finally found out.  The scale of these trucks is 1/16.  The plans come from a company called Toys and Joys.  This is the link to the pattern,    http://toysandjoys.com/66-the-kw-semi-tractor.html

They make about 3 new patterns every year.  All are for a more advanced woodworker although they do have a few that are easier.  Similar to hot rod building, one piece at a time.  There are many parallels to building a rod, lot of tools and trial and error.  The easy part for me is that this comes with a set of plans, unlike my hot rod.no  My shop is set up for woodworking and had lots of space, that is until the '53 showed up.  Now it is crowded for sure.  Have to work with it though, at least for now.  Having two hobbies allows me to switch back and forth depending on funds and how I feel.  I will also confess to spending more time here and one other hot rod forum lately.  I think it may be part of getting older, crap I hate saying that.

Thanks for the positive feed back guys.  I will post some more in a little while for sure.

Marten

I think those trucks are really, really cool Marten.. The time and attention to detail is amazing. It is also the kind of patience and detail you need to build that 53.. Post away with some of your other pieces..That is pretty neat stuff..

Janice, that is cool. Lots of work for sure. Actually building that one now, although it seems to have gotten stuck since the'53 showed up. This working stuff really gets in the way of my hobbies. Oh well, it also pays for them.
