People who drive to big of a vehicle..

So I run into town to the grocery store last night to grab a couple things.. I come out 10 min at the most and I see two people standing at the back of my car. A lady and a kid.. they are looking at my car, I swear if I hadn't come out when I did they would have drove away.. She was driving a Chevy 4x4 jacked up and when she is backing out she hit the rear of my MDX and puched the rear corner of my bumper and cracked all the paint and dented the plastic bumper.. I should have made a bigger fuss.. But she started to cry about what she was going to tell her husband.. I told her to forget about .. I hate being a nice guy sometimes.. but this was is my project to-day fixed just gotta blow it in to-morrow.. but it Peed me off.. with my nerve pain but kept me too busy to think about it to-day.. Hopefully a couple more good days in the shop and it will be gone...

At least she stuck around. Years ago we were rear ended at low speed in our Eagle wagon by a lady who got distracted by a crying kid in the back seat of her car. Little damage to ours, big damage to hers. She cried and I tried to console her but it didn’t help. Her excuse – “my husband is Italian”!

hard sometimes to be the nice guy but it is always better then being the jerk. Bet you made someone's day anyway. One day you will look back and smile, if not I will know that you are a great guy and that will make me smile.

I concur with the big vehicle comment.  i was knocked down one night at Canadian Tire by an elderly lady driving a big old cadilac. I had just gotten off work, it was twilight, and I was in full construction gear, orange jacket with reflective strips, pants with reflective strips, as I said fully decked out....she didn't see me.  Before I could brush myself off the cops were there, they had been at the a&w grabbing a bite and the whole parking lot must have called it in to 911.  She was no more than 4 or 5 feet tall and needed a cushion to just barely see over the steering wheel. I wasn't hurt, she didn't hit me hard, she just kept coming lol. The police were less than understanding and one guy was chirping like an a-hole, you'd think he had been the one hit. Anyway long story short, it was the last car her husband had bought before he passed so that's what she had. I followed up and they took her license poor dear.

Was in downtown Picton this morning. The main street is under construction so there are detours. At one corner where there is an enforced left turn, this jerk leading the line of traffic does a U turn in front of the line of vehicles behind him right in the intersection. The fellow following must have assumed he was turning left for the detour and followed him missing the U turning vehicle by a hair. Naturally the car following would have been charged in the event of a collision. In the meantime, idiot then pulls into a parking space and backs up without looking into a pedestrian who was J walking. The pedestrian jumps aside and the idiot parks straddling two parking spots. Totally oblivious to his actions, he gets out of the vehicle and goes into get his coffee.

Miss T bucket, you do realize that that orange construction gear is for target practice, lol. Don't worry I work in construction as well.

confuseHow my day turned ugly!!! cry  Simple jobs that turn ugly.. So when I discovered I had a dead battery and came back to it to-day.. easy job, just pull the battery after I installed my memory savor to the DLC.  I go and pull out the battery stick a new battery in from my own stock ..jump in disconnect the battery savor turn the key to pull the MDX into the sun to check color match..nothing battery dead.. son of a dog..I stick the charger on go cut grass for an hr, come back check battery 2V ,what the heck.

So I jerk that battery out , grab another one from stock,  install it, jump in hit key to crank it over, zip nothing no lights.. By now ugly is starting to enter my charming warm personality..So I get out grab my volt meter to check the battery ,how can I have two dead batteries???? So I get my LIGHT  and start making a visual inspection for corroded battery cable..then I am looking at the battery and what confuse...what the heck..I forgot to remove the little plastic top they put on new batteries..furious I have a little trouble with my vision in one eye but not that bad.. It was just a bit dark in the engine compartment and I never seen that plastic tab on the ground post..

IDIOT..IDIOT..SO I GO DOWN BEHIND THE BARN AND KICK MY A$$ SEVERAL TIMES.. CUSSED AT MY SELF.. Then after removing plastic cap and properly install battery cable.. Holy crap batman she starts right up.. But wait the idiot is still not finished...confuse radio does not work.. what .. dig manual out of glove box to look up what it says in manual.. find card with radio code.. and navigation code.. put in navigation code hurray navigation screen fires up fine, enter radio code ..zip..try again, zip.. spend another hour trying to figure out what the problem is.

So information says remove trim panels to unplug antenna from radio disconnect battery to clear radio error code.. Input radio code again zip...nada..Throw a temper tantrum..more cuss words..furious still more..start looking again after about 1 more hr.. I find a little sticker inside fuse box with numbers that match the radio code and serial number that I had found in the owners manual..then also is another set of numbers , Hmmm, same amount of numbers .. get on line and find out how to get radio serial number ,  clear codes again.. turn radio off, hold number 1& 6 on the presets.. turn radio back on radio displays a set of numbers that I write down ..Hmmm they match the other set of numbers I found in fuse box.. clear codes again and turn radio on punch in new numbers... Holy-crap bat-man she works..

Now to reset the navigation system again..Set clock.. the rest can wait till to-morrow now need a dozen beer to get up enough courage to jump off barn roof.. All this because some lady runs into my SUV while I am just minding my own business and I am an idiot for not charging her a couple hundred bucks.,. anyway I feel better getting it off my chest .. It's hot and I still have a couple acres to get cut.. So that's how my day went.. furious

Rant over.. I think some time around 9:pm I will be able to laugh at my stupidity..but not right now.. I want to stay ugly for a couple hrs so I don't forget this.. Strange how MURPHY can find you some days eh!!!!!smile smile smile smile  biggrin biggrin biggrin getting better..Hope I don't see that idiot when I am shaving to-night.. I will wait till I calm down but first thing Monday morning I am going to fire that idiot...!!!!!!!!furious

Chuck, so sorry to hear of your health problems and your ..ah..”mistakes”. There isn’t anyone on this forum who hasn’t done something similar, or soon will, and we all nod our heads and say quietly to ourselves “yup, been there, done that”. As a mechanic, I find the funniest conversations amongst gear heads are about the screw-ups we’ve committed rather than the victories we’ve achieved. We’ve all done it and will do it again. Damn, getting old is a real nuisance some times but VERY entertaining. Keep up the good work on this forum, we need you

I hope everybody just takes my Saturday rant as in humour .. It was a frustrating day, but all of my own making.. I was in a rush to get to much done and we all know where impatience gets us.. I'd like to think it was all Murphys fault. He seems to hanging around me a bit to much lately. I am hoping this three... first the fender bender, at least the paint went good and the color match is almost perfect,  then the battery issue, then getting all the memory stuff back and working, .. Today is the beginning of the rest of my life..never look back.. If your looking behind you will not see the future..  I am good to-day, yesterday is yesterday and behind me now..biggrin smile

Chuck, are you aware of the position you've put yourself into by fixing your won vehicle caused by an at fault accident?
If you have another accident with this vehicle and try to claim a repair that's worse than this one you could be dropped or they may not pay the claim. This is an open forum, one that your insurance company can view and use against you. It was nice you fixed it yourself and let the lady off but you should be more cautious in the future and not leave yourself open to your insurance claiming your vehicle had PREVIOUS DAMAGE. This can also create a situation where, if you write it off, your vehicle would be drastically under-valued. It happened to me when I had a small fender bender where previous damage was repaired and not reported.

Just letting you know you ARE a nice guy but making this incident public can come back to bite you in the wallet!

I don't think that will keep me awake to-night .. It's 05 Acura that only has value to me .. when I finish with it will just get passed on to one my offspring..It has no value left what the heck is an 05 Acura worth to-day.. squat.. You worry to much ..I rather doubt my insurance company is searching out forums to try and get me for some insurance claim for a couple hundred bucks..I just can't see that ..

We're not laughing at you Chuk, we're laughing with you......you were laughing ......right?

This won't make you feel any better but after working on the Falcon for 7 years my wife(girlfriend at the time) and I took it on a cruise to Thousand Islands. With my right indicator blinking I prepared to pull into a motel when buddy tries to pass me on the right side. Took the entire passenger side into ugly, pulled the front bumper out at a 90' angle, had to drive it into a light standard to push it back - people thought I was wrecking the car, lol.

Cops show up, buddy from Penn.  in the brand new Buick, gold rings, gold necklaces ( it was early 80's, apparently Disco was still king where he lived) gets a pass, long hair ( me) in the hot-rod gets charged ??

Went to court, fought and won but( only because my wife took pics immediately) that dickhead O.P.P. followed me right to city limit on the MacDonald Cartier. Richard Newburn was his name.

We brought the car home and fixed it.

Two weeks later I went to the grocery store for pickling salt ( don't ask). As I walked out of the store I looked up just in time to watch a little old lady, all of 4 foot nuthin' back her mile long Olds right into the drivers door - and leave. Never turned her head once,  had to follow her home to point out what she'd done.

Took the car home and fixed it.....

A month later it was parked on the boulevard front of my in-law's home. I came out about one a.m. to leave.......drivers door punched in again. Numb-nuts across the street always backed straight out 'till he was on the grass opposite to his driveway - then he turned the friggin steering wheel to head down the road. Couldn't reverse and turn at the same time. Idiot.

Took the car home and fixed it............

Gawd I dislike stupid people............

Update to my Murhys law theory:  When I last finished up this tale of woe, I had it starting, Navigation system working and a radio.   I thought my luck is changing and with a little smirk to myself I think good job. So I am going about my business the rest of the day. Getting onto supper and I am putting stuff away, closing up the shop door, grab the keys from the MDX and head to house. I am thinking to my self ,I am whipped going to be nice to grab a goodnights sleep to-night. I turn back with the keys to hit the remote to lock the doors.. WTF..blood pressure spikes..confuse Try it again, the doors are not locking.. AHRRRRGG I walk over cloer and try it , Uh UHH, So , bummed I head in , head to my good friend GOOGLE..Type in my little 3 word problem and on the remote it had a name and a number that that appeared to be name and model number. Autostart -A 433, I ask my friend Google if has any knowledge of such information, not a lot but I link goes to another link.

After a bit, I wound up at a you-tube video: How to program an Autostart..Pretty cool!  So I watch the video, seems pretty simple , open hood find hood pin just inside fender.Great I am happy .. laying back in my lazy a bit later fixing this in my mind a couple times , ah!! I can hardly wait to go to bed so I can get up and fix it .. Finally 6:am put he pooch out, glance over at the MDX , get a coffee off to the porcelain library for some politics. I am feeling pretty confident about fixing this and getting this elephant off my back. Probably why I have high blood pressure and an A-type personality .. Finish my political debate for the day, slip my shorts on and top up my coffee and out I went. Reached in popped the hood set the prop.. O.K The hood pin..the hood pin.. WTF where is the hood pin. There is no hood pin!!!! I can't believe this, I know what a hood pin is and there is none..I already looked about 5 times , but I go back for another look .. nothing.no  I shrugged my shoulders and sauntered back to house mumbling about why me, woe is me, biggrin .

Go back to my friend Google again:And ask what he knows about reprogram autostart A433 no hood pin..Another video, same task for Autostart no hood pin confuse furious calm down, blood pressure remember..disbelief and that's where my story is for this chapter.

I have not got this done yet, as this requires me to crawl under the dash below the steering column, find the module , find the grey wire ,short it ground, quickly disconnect it and reconnect it within 15 seconds and cycle the key on and off after parking lights flash 5 times hit the lock button on the remote hold for s second or 2 your done..Easy eh!! First off, have you ever, or can you envision an 600 lb elephant trying to crawl under a dash of anything?? then try to short out a couple wires and jump and cycle the ign switch in 15 seconds!!!! So I am going to do 1 or 2 sit ups every morning for a couple weeks until I lose a lb before I attempt this next hurdle some time in Aug...cry confuse smile

to be continued

Chuk,
Geez I hope my MDX doesn't have Murphy on its side.

The battery drain must be an MDX thing though. I've had that happen to me while working on installing the hitch and wiring harness. Only to have a dead battery after finishing up but still OK to take a charge. Having the tailgate up for some time.
